The State Museum of Hanover was founded more than 150 years ago thanks to the dedication of concerned citizens. Their goal was to make the museum’s collection accessible to a wider audience.

Lower Saxony’s largest state museum features European art in the State Gallery, as well as departments of archaeology, natural history, ethnology, and a numismatic collection. In addition, the museum hosts special exhibitions of national significance every year.
