Where the "Kuckuck" inn now invites visitors to linger, there was already a tavern 380 years ago: the Klosterkrug, which held a brewing license and is now known as the "Schulz Restaurant."
A dispute in 1630 raised the question of whether the tavern had been built too close to the parish garden. The parsonage had been destroyed during the Thirty Years’ War and had not yet been rebuilt. In 1748, Ludwig Christoph Hölty, the poet of spring, was born in the Mariensee parsonage.
On January 26, 1859, the “Royal Hanoverian Office” granted Carl Kuckuck, a resident of Großkötten and innkeeper, a license to operate a tavern; since 2010, this historic establishment has no longer been owned by the Karl Kuckuck family.
The current owners are Iwona Thielking and Adrian Sporys
. Since 1995, the “Schulz Restaurant” has been located in the Kuckuck building.
The current wedding venue undergoes further renovation and expansion every winter.
