Just follow the red line that winds its way through the heart of Hanover’s downtown, leading you from one attraction to the next: this makes a city tour with the whole family fun, and you won’t miss a thing. The “Rote Faden” has been guiding visitors through the capital of Lower Saxony for over 40 years. Along the 4,200-meter route, you’ll pass 36 sights and can linger at each one as long as you like.
The route leads to the magnificent New Town Hall, which displays four models of the city from the Middle Ages to the present day. Take the curved dome lift up to the town hall dome, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the entire city. In the quaint Old Town, the highlights are clustered close together: the imposing Marktkirche and the Old Town Hall, the southernmost examples of North German Brick Gothic architecture, or the Leibniz House with the reconstructed facade of Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz’s residence. The Beginen Tower represents what remains of Hanover’s medieval city fortifications; the famous colorful Nanas on the banks of the Leine invite you to linger just as much as the cozy cafés and restaurants along the route.
The companion guidebook "Der Rote Faden – Your Very Own Personal City Guide" is available in ten languages, and the service is also available as an app. For more information, contact the Tourist Information Office at 0511-12345111 or visit www.hannover.de/roterfaden.
