Polar bears, seals, and penguins glide gracefully through the water, separated from visitors only by a pane of glass. Every year, around 1.3 million visitors are captivated by more than 2,000 animals representing some 211 species, as well as thrilling shows and feedings. Nestled among quaint wooden cottages in a cove lies an imposing freighter, whose hull features 39 panoramic windows offering a view of the underwater world. As visitors to the adventure zoo stroll through the Canadian landscape of “Yukon Bay,” they feel as if they’ve been transported to the Arctic Ocean. Wolves lurk around the little harbor town, while caribou and bison wander by. Six additional themed worlds transport visitors to exotic natural landscapes right in the heart of Hanover.

On a safari through Africa

The Hannover Adventure Zoo is considered Europe’s number one themed animal park because it combines species-appropriate animal care with a constant stream of new attractions for visitors. For example, you can glide by boat through the “Zambezi” African landscape, passing very close to hippos and rhinos, flamingos, and pelicans. In the Indian jungle, you’ll discover the overgrown palace ruins of a maharaja, home to elephants, tigers, leopards, and monkeys. In the Australian Outback, kangaroos, emus, and wombats await you on an expedition set against a fiery red backdrop.

All information about the zoo experience and your stay in Hannover can be found online at www.visit-hannover.com.

Winter Zoo

From late November through mid-February, the Hannover Adventure Zoo transforms into a beautiful winter wonderland featuring toboggan runs and an open-air ice rink, along with a winter village and a variety of activities.

In the forest and underwater

Visitors can see native wildlife at the Springe Bison Enclosure, south of Hanover. Here, visitors can encounter bison, moose, primitive wild horses, lynx, deer, and falcons. Hand-raised timber wolves come very close to people, and brown bears can be observed bathing from a viewing platform. Another destination for animal lovers of all ages is located right next to the famous Herrenhausen Gardens: Germany’s first tropical Sea Life attraction is home to more than 2,500 underwater creatures in 37 tanks. In the eight-meter-long glass tunnel, visitors walk beneath sharks and sea turtles. And in the tropical plant dome, a glass bridge leads through the rainforest, where Cuban crocodiles lurk.
