Hanover invites the whole family to enjoy some summer highlights.

On the shores of Lake Maschsee, right in the heart of Hanover, palm trees sway in the breeze; cozy beer gardens and chic beach bars invite you to take a break; and you can watch sailors or set out on the water yourself in a small boat. In the summer, the Lake Maschsee Festival takes place on the shore for several weeks: a highlight of Hanover’s festival season, featuring live music and fun for kids, sporting activities, and a variety of culinary delights all around the lake. Around two million visitors are expected again this year to enjoy the free lake festivities.

Festive Baroque Garden

Other highlights of the summer festival season take place in the famous Herrenhausen Gardens, Hannover’s Baroque “ballroom in the countryside”: During the International Fireworks Competition, the evening sky is filled with explosive works of art combining light and music. Beforehand, there’s a family program featuring dance and music from the participating nations. At the “Kleines Fest im Großen Garten,” more than 100 street performers, acrobats, clowns, and musicians take the stage amid avenues of linden trees, boxwood hedges, and flower beds. And the “KunstFestSpiele Herrenhausen” offers an international festival program featuring classical and avant-garde performances. All dates can be found at www.visit-hannover.com/highlights.
