Hannover is the place to be

Authentic, genuine, relaxed - the ideal mix for visitors!

This trendy city draws visitors with its unique charm

Hannover's Old Town

A beach club with a panoramic view over the rooftops of the Old Town, neighborhood squares with laid-back cafés, craft beer bars, and the legendary clubs where Lena once danced and where Fury in the Slaughterhouse and the Scorpions launched their careers: Hannover has plenty of cool hangouts for young city travelers. In the lively city center of Lower Saxony’s capital, people have always met at the historic Kröpcke Clock or “under the tail”—that is, at the equestrian statue in front of the main train station. This is where the major shopping streets run, inviting you to shop.

Following the "Red Thread" through the city

The "Red Thread," a painted line on the pavement, winds its way through the heart of the city, leading to the most important sights. With a handy brochure, you can tailor your city tour to your own preferences: you can take breaks at inviting ice cream parlors whenever you like and still make sure you don’t miss a thing. A must-do is taking the inclined elevator up to the dome of the New City Hall: from the top, you’ll enjoy a breathtaking view of the green city. Guided city tours and a hop-on hop-off double-decker bus tour also provide a good first overview.

Event highlights

Maschsee Festival in Hannover

At the world’s largest Marksmen´s Fair in July, tradition meets modernity: Hundreds of thousands of visitors enjoy themselves on carousels, in party tents, and during the traditional shooting parade through the city center. The Maschseefest in early August, with its unique maritime atmosphere right in the heart of the city, is Lower Saxony’s largest folk festival. Every year for 19 days, it invites visitors to enjoy cocktail bars, live music, and fun for kids, along with sports activities and a variety of culinary delights around Hannover’s city lake.

Hidden gems in the neighborhoods

Café in the List

The "Hannover Inside" pocket guide offers insider tips on shopping and nightlife, culture and day trips, as well as special spots and hidden gems. It focuses on the city’s trendiest neighborhoods: In the colorful, bustling Linden district, bon vivants turn the streets into their living room. In Nordstadt, just behind the university, the many students create a peaceful, relaxed atmosphere. In the historic List district, on the other hand, you’ll find chic boutiques and wine bars. Finally, Südstadt stands out with the Maschsee and its beautiful neighborhood squares.
