This marksmen’s parade is truly a sight to behold: more than 10,000 smartly dressed marksmen, marching bands, decorated floats, and horse-drawn carriages parade through Hannover to the sound of music and singing. From City Hall to the Schützenplatz in Lower Saxony’s capital, up to 200,000 people line the streets to cheer on Europe’s longest parade. The colorful parade is the highlight of the world’s largest Marksmen´s Fair, which attracts over a million people to the Schützenplatz every July with rides and raffle booths, bratwurst and cotton candy, festival tents, and dance parties.

A vacation vibe at Maschsee

Once the Marksmen´s Fair is over, it won’t be long before the next major festival kicks off in Hannover: In the heart of the city, the Maschseefest brings a vacation vibe to the area in July and August. Last year, around two million visitors turned the lakeside promenades into a colorful boulevard. Numerous restaurants, beer gardens, and bars around the lake invite you to linger. Street performers and children’s programs entertain the whole family, while lighthouses and lounges right on the water offer beautiful vantage points. Free concert highlights and open-air dance evenings fill the summer evenings with music and a cheerful atmosphere. “Enjoying summer evenings, having fun, and spending quality time—the Maschseefest provides the perfect setting for all of this,” says Hans Christian Nolte, managing director of Hannover Veranstaltungs GmbH, which organizes the festival.
