HMTG, led by Managing Director Christian Katz, is Hanover’s leading provider of regional, location, and city marketing services, as well as tourism services.
Its primary focus is on promoting the Hannover region—which includes the state capital of Lower Saxony and 20 other cities and municipalities in the surrounding area—on a national and international level.
The program covers a wide range of topics, including region-wide initiatives aimed at strengthening and further developing Hanover as an ideal region and hub for innovation. The goal of the HMTG is to foster a sense of identification with the entire economic and living environment of Hanover, as well as to enhance its national and international standing.
This is achieved through a variety of measures, such as advertising campaigns, press and public relations work, and online presence (including www.visit-hannover.com, www.visit-hannover.com/urlaubsregion), collaboration with international marketing partnerships such as the “9 Cities in Lower Saxony” or the “German National Tourist Board (DZT),” participation in trade shows and workshops, and the organization of FAM trips or press tours.
In addition, the HMTG serves as a tourism marketing organization and, through its City Break Team (which handles the sale of experience packages and guided city tours), its accommodation booking service, and its Tourist Information office, offers a full range of services related to stays in Hanover. The HMTG supports business tourism through, among other things, centralized marketing for conferences, conventions, and events of all kinds in the Hanover region.
Through a wide range of activities—such as distributing multilingual promotional brochures (PDF), contributing to an annual health supplement in daily newspapers, and organizing the Maschsee Festival and the International Fireworks Competition through its subsidiary Hannover Veranstaltungs GmbH (HVG)—HMTG plays a key role in strengthening Hannover as a business hub. In addition, it promotes Hannover as a shopping destination and a hub for trade fairs and science through various print and online campaigns, brochures, newspaper supplements, information guides, and much more.
The Hannover Marketing Gesellschaft (HMG), jointly founded in 2001 by the State Capital and companies based in Hannover, is structured as a public-private partnership. The state capital and the Hanover region (since January 1, 2007) each hold 25 percent of the company’s shares, while Hanover-based companies hold 50 percent. In June 2008, it became the Hanover Marketing and Tourism GmbH (HMTG).
