“It is a great honor for us to participate in this anniversary edition of Hanover’s International Fireworks Competition—which we consider one of the most prestigious competitions in the world,” agree Chief Designer Vander Tenedero and Managing Director Joven Ong of Dragon Fireworks.
Dragon Fireworks began selecting songs for Herrenhausen as early as 2014. According to Tenedero and Ong, this selection serves as the most important element—the foundation upon which the show’s design and effects are built. The team has devised a special story for their performance: The fireworks display, titled “The Music Box,” is intended to take the audience on an emotional roller coaster ride. “For the 25th anniversary of the International Fireworks Competition, Dragon Fireworks will unveil an antique and mysterious music box that begins with a wild, lightning-fast opening,” report Tenedero and Ong. This will be followed by a series of calmer melodies, including a piano piece by Yann Tiersen, which will “hypnotize” the audience in perfect harmony with the colorful lights.
Hans Christian Nolte, managing director of Hannover Veranstaltungs GmbH (HVG), the company organizing the competition, is looking forward to welcoming guests from the Philippines: “I’m very excited about the lively and emotional journey that Dragon Fireworks plans to take us on during their premiere in Herrenhausen.”
Soul Food & Tinikling – the supporting program takes you on a journey to the Philippines
Visitors will be treated to a Filipino evening to get them in the mood for the fireworks: straight from the depths of the Pacific Islands, the duo Ozeanie welcomes guests in traditional attire. With matching cocktails and comedic entertainment, the two quirky bartenders create a vacation vibe. And in the garden theater, The Soul Gang serves up earthy blues, soulful ballads, and laid-back groove numbers: “soul food” at its finest!
On the rehearsal stage, Filipino dances, songs, and pop songs give way to the traditional tinikling, the dance with bamboo sticks. The diverse flora of the Philippines is embodied by the majestic pahooka and two radiant, rose-colored stilt flowers. Flickering handheld torches, blazing fans, and flaming wings—a spectacular fire dance on the cabaret stage. Drako the dragon and a curious tarsier provide all sorts of commotion and mischief, while on the children’s lawn, Mathias Lück invites visitors aboard his ship, the Jolante, for a journey into the world of palm trees and seahorses—an exciting program for young and old alike!
The supporting program is sponsored by the Philippine-German Friendship Association and Filipiniana Hannover.
