On May 10, 2026, the Deister Working Group invites you to the Deister for the 17th time—for a day full of nature experiences for explorers of all ages.
Once again this year, visitors can look forward to a combination of fun, information, and excitement—all set amidst lush greenery. The six Deister municipalities—Bad Münder, Bad Nenndorf, Barsinghausen, Rodenberg, Springe, and Wennigsen—have once again put together a varied program this year that reflects the region’s diversity and appeals to the whole family, ranging from hiking and biking tours to herb walks and live music.
Highlights:
The State Garden Show is taking place in Bad Nenndorf, while Springe is hosting the Region Hannover anniversary roadshow as well as guided tours focusing on wild herbs and forestry.
Wennigsen offers a theatrical walking tour and family fun at the Wasserpark outdoor swimming area. In Bad Münder, a unique herb-themed walking tour at the Nordmannsturm invites visitors on a journey of discovery, and in Barsinghausen, tours of the monastery tunnels offer a glimpse of life underground.
A Blooming Greeting for Mother's Day
This year, Deistertag falls on Mother’s Day, so all mothers will receive a seed paper postcard that can be planted and will later bloom as a floral greeting.
Jens Palandt, First Regional Councilor of the Hannover Region: “Deistertag is an invitation to experience a very special landscape together—with all it has to offer in terms of nature, encounters, and extraordinary places. It is on days like these that we really feel how much there is to discover right on our doorstep and how valuable it is to come together across municipal boundaries. I am particularly pleased that the Regional Administration is also part of the program this year and that we can celebrate 25 years of the Hannover Region together with the people of Springe.”
“Deistertag embodies active collaboration across municipal boundaries and allows visitors to experience firsthand what makes our region so special,” emphasizes Timo Muchow, spokesperson for the Deister Working Group and business development officer for the city of Barsinghausen.
Deistertag is committed to sustainability
With eco-friendly travel options, local products, and nature-friendly activities, it becomes clear how nature-based tourism can be organized responsibly. Visitors to the Deister can consciously choose to leave their cars at home—many hiking trails and event venues are easily accessible by public transportation, and a shuttle bus service is available on Deistertag.
As in previous years, Hannover Marketing und Tourismus GmbH (HMTG) will once again play a leading role in promoting Deister Day in 2026. In addition to the program flyer, this includes a large-scale poster campaign within a 60-kilometer radius of Hannover. In addition, the event will be promoted through posters in downtown Hannover, passenger TV spots on Üstra trams and at stations, as well as advertisements and advertorials.
“Deistertag reinforces the Hannover region as a shared recreational space and demonstrates how closely nature, leisure, and sustainable mobility are intertwined here. Supporting this visibility and the commitment of local communities is particularly important to us because it enhances both the quality of life for residents and the region’s appeal to visitors,” said Christian Katz, Managing Director of HMTG.
The program flyer is now available at the tourist information offices in the Deister municipalities and at the Hannover Tourist Information Office at Ernst-August-Platz 8. It is also available at cultural institutions and restaurants.
The flyer is available online at www.visit-hannover.com/deister and www.deister.de
