Under the motto New Nations - New Spirits, the 2024 International Fireworks Competition kicked off an impressive season on May 25.
Five renowned pyrotechnics teams from countries that had never been represented before presented their breathtaking shows over five evenings between May and September against the magnificent backdrop of the Herrenhausen Gardens.
This year’s victory went to the ten-member SALIUTAS team from Lithuania.
Second place went to the Amir Morani Fireworks team from India, while the Privatex-Pyro team from Slovakia took third place.
The Lithuanian team took the audience on a spectacular journey into the past, masterfully staged with state-of-the-art fireworks technology. Under the title “The Future Lies in the Past,” they transformed the Great Garden into a lavish 18th-century celebration honoring the connection between the royal houses of Hanover and Britain. The focal point was the coronation of Elector George I of Hanover as King of Great Britain in 1714.
Using colorful effects, ground displays, and a golden rain falling from the sky, they brought this historic event to life through pyrotechnics. The fireworks were accompanied by the music of legendary British bands such as the Beatles and Queen, further emphasizing the connection between the two royal houses through music.
With this creative and flawlessly executed show on September 7, Lithuania not only thrilled the 11,500 spectators enjoying the balmy late-summer evening in the Herrenhausen Gardens but also won over the 10-member expert jury. The team thus prevailed against strong competition from Malaysia, Estonia, India, and Slovakia.
The Vilniaus Saliutas team from Lithuania has been working together since 1996. Originally starting out as fireworks retailers, they gradually evolved into one of the leading providers of professional fireworks services. In 2013, they finally founded their company and have since built up an impressive portfolio of award-winning shows. “Fireworks are our passion, and performing in this venerable garden setting was a major challenge. We are all the more proud to have won first place,” says project manager Arturas Zumeras.
Jury Chair Robert Merkel sums up this year’s event: “2024 was a year full of new inspiration. The theme ‘New Nations – New Spirits’ proved that inviting teams from previously unknown fireworks nations brings a breath of fresh air. The quality of the performances was impressive, and the decision was extremely close. In Lithuania, we have found a worthy winner who put on a strong show.”
