The Festive Weekend is Back! - Visit Hannover

HMTG press release

The festive weekend is coming back!

After a five-year hiatus: The Festive Weekend is back! The flagship event at Steinhuder Meer is back in action

Highlight of the festive weekend: The double fireworks display

“After a five-year hiatus, we’re able to bring back our beloved event together with our partner, Hannover Marketing & Tourismus GmbH, and all of our partners. We have high hopes of making the event even better than it already was,” promises Willi Rehbock, managing director of Steinhuder Meer Tourismus GmbH (SMT).

The Festive Weekend is being promoted with significant support from Hannover Marketing & Tourismus GmbH (HMTG). Plans are underway to support the relaunch of this popular event—which was last held in 2019 due to the pandemic—with a national campaign and social media efforts starting in July. The campaign will also be visible in the source markets of the Netherlands, Denmark, and Belgium.

Hans Nolte, Managing Director of Hannover Marketing & Tourismus GmbH: “We are delighted to see the return of a cherished tradition after such a long hiatus. The Festive Weekend is a flagship event for regional tourism. With Deister Day and the revival of this popular event—which is taking place for the 67th time in Steinhude and Mardorf—we are once again promoting the Hannover vacation region with full force.”

“The Festive Weekend, with its program taking place on both shores of Lake Steinhude, is truly one of a kind and its reputation extends far beyond the region’s borders. That’s why it’s high time for the event to be revived with the support of the HMTG. I’ve already marked the weekend on my calendar,” says Regional President Steffen Krach.

Show acts with live music, cabaret, acrobatics and entertainment for children and families are planned on several stages. There will also be fabulous walk acts and, of course, a wide range of food and drink.

Event highlight: Double fireworks display

As is tradition, the absolute highlight of the event will be the double fireworks display, which, starting at 10 p.m. on Saturday evening, will transform the night sky over Steinhude and Mardorf into a sea of sparkling colors and rousing music, setting the Steinhuder Meer aglow. The fireworks will be set off simultaneously in front of the Steinhude Promenade and the Mardorf beach.
Against what we hope will be a clear, starry sky and above the vast, mirror-like expanse of the Steinhuder Meer, the fireworks will conjure up a kaleidoscope of colors and a shower of colorful sparks. Many illuminated boats off the shores provide the perfect backdrop. “The fireworks alone are worth the trip,” Willi Rehbock is convinced

The Program in Steinhude: Music, Cabaret, and Culinary
Delights From August 23 to 25, Steinhude’s town center and promenade will be transformed into a festival area. From Friday at noon through Sunday evening, four stages will host an extensive program featuring music, acrobatics, and cabaret. Here’s what you need to know for the festive weekend: Admission on Friday and Sunday is free. A ticket is required for Saturday’s program. Ticket sales begin on May 10.
On Saturday evening, Max Giesinger will perform a concert on the lake stage in the harbor. A separate concert ticket is required for this event. It pays to act fast—only a few remaining tickets are available at eventim.de.

The Program in Mardorf: A Vacation Vibe with a Beach Party
On Saturday, August 24, starting at noon, the Mardorf beach at the Weiße Düne will be transformed into a family-friendly beach, featuring music and summery culinary delights. In the evening, a beach party will kick off: music, cold drinks, and tasty snacks will turn the time leading up to the fireworks display into a vacation-like event. A ticket is required to access the Mardorf beach.
