The 2024 Maschseefest kicked off this Wednesday in Hanover. Over the course of 19 days, from July 31 to August 18, Germany’s largest lake festival—and Lower Saxony’s largest street festival—will feature international cuisine, an extensive stage and music program with more than 200 acts, and numerous activities for children and families. This maritime festival in the heart of Lower Saxony’s capital extends the summer vacation by two and a half weeks. Around two million visitors are expected to attend Hanover’s summer highlight.
The 37th Maschsee Festival kicked off amid a great atmosphere and summery temperatures of 27 degrees. At 5:55 p.m., host Hans Nolte, managing director of Hannover Veranstaltungs GmbH (HVG), and Hannover’s mayor, Belit Onay, symbolically cut the blue opening ribbon in front of numerous guests, surrounded by colorful stilt walkers, acrobats, and musicians.
“The Maschsee Festival is rock ’n’ roll. It’s an indispensable part of Hanover. Without a doubt, Germany’s largest lake festival is one of the absolute highlights of our event calendar. Its appeal and popularity remain as strong as ever, even in its 37th year. Once again, a rich and diverse program has been put together for 2024 that has something for every guest. We Hanoverians, along with thousands of visitors from out of town, are looking forward to the big lake party,” says Hanover’s Mayor Belit Onay.
Hans Nolte adds: “The weather forecast looks good so far, and Hanover is in the mood to celebrate. After last year’s erratic weather, this makes us optimistic that the upcoming 19 days of the Maschsee Festival will once again be a resounding success. We’re proud that not only is all of Germany looking forward to the food festival with its extensive open-air show program by the lake, but that we’ve also long since set the standard for festival culture among our international guests.”
The culinary offerings are one of the festival’s highlights and live up to the accolades from gourmet experts—the Maschseefest in Hanover was ranked 9th among the best summer festivals for foodies by the international travel portal “Big 7 Travel” in 2022. International cuisine—from Middle Eastern to Mexican, Asian, Scandinavian, and Hanseatic—exclusive, exotic, home-style, and “on the go”—the variety of culinary delights at Hanover’s Seefest is simply immeasurable.
