Raschplatz Becomes a Central Public Viewing Hotspot

European Championship Vibes in the Heart of Hanover

The European Soccer Championship kicks off in Germany, and Hannover is joining in the celebration!

Public Viewing - TEASER

Raschplatz, known for its successful summer and winter open-air events, will serve as the state capital’s main public viewing venue. There, up to 1,600 fans will be able to watch all European Championship games live on a 30-square-meter screen. When games are scheduled at the same time, a decision will be made as to which one will be broadcast, depending on its importance.

In the Open-Air Fan Arena, located right behind the main train station, visitors can enjoy classic food and drinks—such as beer and bratwurst—as well as a festive atmosphere with DJs playing before and after the games. What makes it especially exciting is that some of the DJs are from the participating countries, helping to create an authentic atmosphere.

The kickoff at Raschplatz will take place on June 14 at 5 p.m. under the theme “Everyone in White,” matching the jerseys of the German national team. The opening match between Germany and Scotland begins at 9 p.m. Admission is free. For those who would like to enjoy the event in a more exclusive setting, a VIP area is available, featuring comfortable seating, service, and a perfect view of the screen. Free table reservations can be made at www.raschplatz-openair.de.

“The European Soccer Championships are among the world’s biggest sporting events and are now regularly accompanied by public viewing events. That’s why we’re pleased that there are also great options in Hanover that will attract an audience,” says Mayor Belit Onay, emphasizing: “The various public viewing events not only help spread the soccer excitement throughout the entire city. They also bring life to our downtown area and thus support local restaurants and retail businesses.”

Axel von der Ohe, Head of Public Order, adds: “The opportunity to watch soccer together at Raschplatz fits perfectly into our plan to revitalize the areas near the train station. This makes the wish for revitalization efforts to continue behind the station a reality. We’re looking forward to four weeks of a lively and festive atmosphere right next to the station—and it will be safe for everyone who joins in.”

“As a city of sports, it’s fitting for Hanover to welcome two European Championship teams,” emphasizes Susanne Blasberg-Bense, head of the sports department, who goes on to explain: “As the licensing authority, we worked hard to ensure that the public viewings could take place at Raschplatz, Waterlooplatz, and Schützenplatz. After all, this is more than just watching sporting events together—it is an expression of community and solidarity. In an age when we often communicate with one another only through digital media, public viewings offer the opportunity to share genuine, emotional moments with other people.”

“As the organizers of the public viewing event at Raschplatz, we are delighted to be able to continue the venue’s success story with this major soccer event and the subsequent resumption of the Raschplatz Summer Open Air. These events will permanently transform the appearance of Raschplatz and the surrounding areas, thereby helping to create a positive image among international visitors as well,” says Hans Nolte, head of Hannover Marketing & Tourism.

Raschplatz is just a few minutes’ walk from the main train station and the central bus station, and is easily accessible via light rail lines 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 9, and 10.

Sports and fun through the end of September.

As the European Championship comes to a close, the sporting events at Raschplatz will continue almost seamlessly into the afterparty. After the final on July 14, it will remain a central hub for sports, fun, and community, as the popular Raschplatz Summer Open Air returns, and the Turn-Klubb Hannover (TKH)’s “TKH Summer Jam” kicks off in mid-July. Through the end of September, Raschplatz will once again be transformed into a soccer and multi-court arena. For more information, visit www.raschplatz-openair.de.
