Final

The Swedish pyrotechnics team Göteborgs FyrverkeriFabrik is aiming for its sixth victory at the International Fireworks Competition in Hanover. For visitors, this is the last chance of the year to see a spectacular fireworks display in the Herrenhausen Gardens.

 For the finale—and thus the last of five events this year—the International Fireworks Competition in the Herrenhausen Gardens will feature a show by the Swedish team Göteborgs FyrverkeriFabrik (GFF). This marks the return of a very special guest to Hanover. The Swedes are among the most successful teams in the competition’s history and are considered dark horses this year.

The reason for the early praise: Martin Hildeberg, founder and creative director of Göteborgs FyrverkeriFabrik, knows the International Fireworks Competition in Herrenhausen inside and out. He first competed in 2002—and took first place right off the bat. The Swedish team also won the competition in 2003, 2004, 2010, and 2015. In total, GFF has competed in Hannover seven times so far and has taken first place five times. This track record makes the team one of the most successful participants ever.

“Hanover is a special place for us. We have many fond memories of the competition,” says Martin Hildeberg. Now another chapter is set to be added.

The Shom is titled “Sky High.”

The show

Inspired by the required piece “Jupiter” from Gustav Holst’s suite “The Planets,” the team takes the audience on a journey through the vastness of the universe, past the Sun, the Moon, and Mars. Along the way, viewers are treated to a glimpse into the fascinating world of satellites, floating balloons, and astronauts.

With powerful imagery, ethereal moments, and heavenly radiance, orchestral music and pyrotechnics merge into a grand, unified composition.

Supporting program

Even before the fireworks begin, there’s plenty to see at the Herrenhausen Gardens: street performers carrying glowing castles in the air, whimsical snowflakes, and the Northern Lights make their way through the gardens.

On the various stages, the audience can look forward to, among other things, Fidolo’s Little Circus
with clowning and interactive tricks on the Children’s Meadow;
music, humor, and depth with the three Swedes “Blås Bröders” at the Garden Theater; and Hanover-based musician Juliano Rossi singing and swinging on stage at the Schlosshof during the awards ceremony. 
The fireworks show begins at 9 p.m., and the awards ceremony starts at 10 p.m.
