Nationwide Cycling Climate Survey with 213,000 participants
The ADFC Bicycle Climate Test is conducted every two years and is considered the most important barometer of public sentiment regarding the development of cycling in German cities. In the fall of 2024, approximately 213,000 citizens across Germany had the opportunity to share their opinions on bike lanes, their sense of safety, infrastructure, and available services. The initiative is supported primarily by the Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport.
“Hannover – Let’s Ride”: A City with a Strategy
Through the “Hannover – Lust auf Fahrrad” initiative, the city has been pursuing a clearly defined vision of a sustainable transportation culture since 2016. The goal is to increase the share of bicycle traffic to 25 percent by 2025. A key milestone in this effort is the expansion of a citywide network of bicycle routes that connects central neighborhoods via safe, signposted routes.
“This outstanding ranking shows that our investments in cycling are paying off. Year after year, cycling in Hannover is becoming safer, more enjoyable, and more commonplace. Coming in second in the ADFC test is an incentive to pick up the pace even further,” said Hannover’s Mayor Belit Onay.
Hannover Marketing und Tourismus GmbH (HMTG) is also getting on board with cycling
