"Überschlag" International Percussion Festival in Hanover

Setting the pace for the international music scene: The Überschlag Festival is set to rock Hannover for the second time

From August 28 to September 1, 2024, the international percussion festival “Überschlag” will take place in Hannover for the second time. The festival will feature 30 concerts and performances, as well as exhibitions and workshops. A total of up to 10,000 visitors are expected over the course of the five days.

“We are delighted about the return of ‘Überschlag.’ With its diverse range of musical events, the festival is one of this summer’s many cultural highlights, and its international character makes it a real asset to the city,” says Hans Nolte, head of Hannover Marketing und Tourismus GmbH.

The festival was launched during the COVID-19 pandemic by a group of young, motivated music and culture professionals. Its first edition struck a chord right away. Now, the young festival team is building on that success.
This summer, the festival organizers are presenting a top-notch lineup of international artists: world-renowned percussionist Evelyn Glennie (UK) will perform an exclusive concert in Germany, and percussion virtuoso Casey Cangelosi from the U.S. will give his only concert in Europe.  The GRAMMY-winning Third Coast Percussion (USA) from Chicago will thrill the audience with their extraordinary performances at their first concert in Germany in 10 years. German percussion stars Benny Greb, Vivi Vassileva, and Vanessa Porter are also among the program highlights.

A special highlight is the large-scale open-air project “Field of Vision,” in collaboration with the Hanover State Opera, taking place on August 31 at Opernplatz, where 36 drummers will perform together. “This
year, we’re welcoming guests from nearly every continent, both as performers on stage and as visitors. Hannover will become the capital of rhythm. Nevertheless, the festival remains an event for both local and national cultural audiences—anyone interested in music is welcome to drop by. This mix works fantastically,” says Philipp Kohnke, founder and artistic director of the festival.
Falko Mohrs, Minister of Science and Culture for Lower Saxony, has assumed patronage of the festival.
