Children: Safety Zone

A sticker in the entrance area shows children where to go for help

If children find themselves in an emergency situation downtown, they can now also find a safe haven at the Tourist Information office at Ernst-August-Platz 8. The facility has been officially designated a “Kinder:Schutzinsel” (Children’s Safety Haven) and is thus part of a network spanning Lower Saxony that provides children in dangerous situations with quick and straightforward assistance.

Participation is indicated by a sticker on the front door: The symbol depicts a blue sea with a yellow island and the words “Children: Safe Haven.” The sticker is placed at children’s eye level and signals that here, children can find safety, support, and a listening ear when they are afraid or need help.

“We want to take responsibility and provide a safe place for children in our city. We believe our efforts are particularly meaningful right here near the main train station,” says Roland Heine, director of Tourist Information Hannover.

“Our employees are properly trained and are ready to assist in an emergency.”

The "Kinder:Schutzinseln" project was launched by the Child Protection Alliance, which was founded in 2020 and is based at the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior and Sport. Numerous institutions in Hannover are already participating—including the Hanover City Library, the ÜSTRA Customer Center, and the AWO facility in Mühlenberg.

With the addition of the Hannover Tourist Information Office, the network of "Kinder:Schutzinseln" in the state capital continues to grow.
