Instead of closing at the end of October as usual, the elevator will remain in operation until November 16 this year. Starting November 3, however, the elevator will close at 4:30 p.m.—just in time, with a little luck, to catch the beginning of the sunset from the dome.
“We’re expecting a golden autumn, so we’ve decided to extend the season by a few days,” says André Lawiszus,
managing director of Hannover Veranstaltungs GmbH (HVG), which operates the elevator.
At an angle of 17 degrees, visitors are transported to the 97.73-meter-high dome of the New City Hall. A window in the cabin roof allows passengers to follow the ride up close—and another window in the floor can be made transparent at the push of a button. The ride takes about one minute, with the curved dome lift moving at a speed of approximately 2 km/h.
