Maritime Family Fun - Visit Hannover

Maschsee festival with children

Maritime family fun

The Maschseefest in Hanover is in full swing and, once again this year, offers an extensive program and lovely spots for families and children.

Children's meadow

Especially for the youngest visitors, a colorful program takes place on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on the children’s lawn in front of the Heinz-von-Heiden-Arena:
With fantastic creative activities from “Xie-Xie Leisure and Experiential Education for Children,” young visitors can, for example, make souvenirs from the festival or let their imaginations run wild as they get face-painted as a lion or a princess. A picture-book cinema and physical activities organized by the Turn-Klubb zu Hannover are also available in front of Hannover’s stadium. A wide variety of treats for those with a sweet tooth adds the icing on the cake to the event.

On the south bank, next to the Irish Folk stage, a fun-filled program awaits kids at Joymondo Kids' Land, featuring a bungee trampoline, water balls, inflatable bouncers, and much more. Hours are Monday through Friday from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

At the Löwenbastion, families can look forward to a welcoming kids’ area: mini pools, sand, and a wide variety of toys are sure to make the kids’ eyes light up. All around, treats like french fries and ice cream tempt the young visitors. Numerous food and cocktail stands invite adult guests to linger and relax. The laid-back atmosphere, featuring covered seating areas and lounge chairs, offers the ideal setting for a day out with the whole family.

Getting Around the Lake by Bus and Boat The ÜSTRA’s special bus line 267 runs exclusively for the Maschseefest, shuttling between the Kröpcke stop and the beach. Along the way, there are several stops right on the lakeside promenade. Bus line 800 operates on the section from Altenbekener Damm to Aegidientorplatz. Alternatively, you can comfortably cruise from shore to shore on ÜSTRA boats and watch the colorful festival festivities from the water.

Tip: Rent a pedal boat and take a leisurely spin around the lake on your own.
The popular Maschsee Pirates boat tours (Tuesdays and Thursdays) are already sold out this year.

Colorful, fun, and for a good cause
. A highlight on the family calendar is the duck race organized by the North German Bone Marrow and Stem Cell Donor Registry (NKR): On August 17, starting at 4 p.m., large “Big Ducks” and small squeaky ducks will take to the water on the north shore under the motto “Giving the Gift of Life—Fighting Leukemia.”.
