Start of the dome ride season - Visit Hannover

HMTG press release

Start of the dome driveway season

The curved dome lift in Hanover's New City Hall takes visitors to new heights!

One of the most beautiful views of the city is once again open to the public: The summer season for rides in the world’s only curved dome lift has begun, and the observation deck on the New City Hall is open to visitors.

Hannover Mayor Belit Onay officially opened the inclined elevator this Friday at 1 p.m. under cloudy skies and spring-like temperatures.

“The opening of the curved dome lift each spring makes the New City Hall an even greater tourist attraction in Hanover than it already is. After all, the magnificent view from the dome of the entire city and far beyond is unparalleled. That’s why I’m delighted that the season is now beginning and that we can once again offer this highlight to all visitors,” says Mayor Onay.
Guests are transported up the 97.73-meter-high dome of the New City Hall at a 17-degree angle. Through a window in the cabin roof, they can follow the ascent up close. Another window in the floor of the cabin can be made transparent at the push of a button—that’s sightseeing with a thrill.
Once you reach the top, you’ll be rewarded with a fantastic panoramic view of the
state capital. In good weather, you can see the Deister and even the peaks of the Harz Mountains.

The curved dome lift runs Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and on weekends and holidays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tickets cost 4 euros for adults and 3.50 euros per child (ages 5 to 14, schoolchildren, and students). Tickets are available at the Tourist Information office in the lobby of the New City Hall, Platz der Menschenrechte 1.
