"Time travel around Marienburg Castle": New digital tour combines multimedia content with real on-site experience

Marienburg Castle is one of the most popular attractions in the Region Hannover—not least as an impressive film location for productions such as Maxton Hall or The school of magical animals. The castle is currently closed to visitors due to renovation work—but there is a digital solution that makes it accessible once again: a virtual tour of the grounds and history of Marienburg Castle.

The new tour is based on the existing Pattensen City app, which has now been expanded: Building on the app’s existing success, a tour of Marienburg Castle has been integrated. The design concept and communication style are deliberately modeled after the existing Pattensen Time Travel app to ensure a consistent user experience.

As you stroll through the grounds surrounding Marienburg Castle and let your gaze wander over the historic walls, your smartphone or tablet opens a gateway to the romantic world of the 19th century. Here, the real and the digital go hand in hand—creating a unique visitor experience.
Guests can thus embark on a journey through time regardless of opening hours. High-quality 360° panoramas with informational texts and video clips offer fascinating insights into the history and present of Marienburg Castle—from the Guelphs’ art treasures to the Knights’ Hall and the Wedding Chamber, all the way to the castle’s architectural history.

This is how it works:
Download the Pattensen Time Travel app for free (App Store/Google Play Store), scan the QR codes on the information boards around Marienburg Castle (or download the tour in advance), and immerse yourself in the lives of Queen Marie and her husband George V, the last King of Hannover.

The "Time travel around Marienburg Castle" tour starts with 15 stations along a 500-metre circular route. You should allow around 60 minutes for the digital discovery tour. The tour requires approx. 350 MB of storage space.

The “Journey Through Time Around Marienburg” was developed at the initiative of Hannover Marketing und Tourismus GmbH (HMTG). In cooperation with the City of Pattensen and in close collaboration with the Marienburg Castle Foundation, the State Museum of Hannover, the House of Hannover (Welfenhaus), and the Region Hannover, a high-quality digital experience has been created. The project was implemented by the Freiburg-based agency Extended Vision.

"We would like to thank everyone involved who contributed to the creation of this special project with their expertise and great commitment - even in complex coordination processes," says HMTG Managing Director Hans Nolte.

The 15 stations are positioned along the route to and around the castle. The content will be continuously supplemented, updated and - depending on the development of the structural situation - expanded to include further stations. You can find more information on the content at www.visit-hannover.com/zeitreise-marienburg

"Marienburg Castle is one of the tourist highlights of our region, which also arouses great fascination internationally. The Maxton Hall hype, which unfortunately coincides with the renovation, shows just how great the castle's potential is. Many people come there and want to find out more about Marienburg Castle, and we have now created an offer for them. The new digital tour makes Marienburg Castle virtually accessible - regardless of the current construction work. This is an excellent way of bridging the period of renovation work," emphasizes Regional President Steffen Krach.
