Two major events, a strong track record

Elite sports and the summer festival proved to be the perfect combination.

Hannover Veranstaltungs GmbH (HVG) has given a positive assessment following the first four days of joint events featuring the Maschseefest and the 2026 Finals.

From July 23 to 26, the canoeing and rowing events provided thrilling competitions right on Lake Maschsee. A total of 15 German championship titles (eight in canoeing, seven in rowing) were awarded there. Many guests took advantage of the Maschsee Festival’s opening hours, which had been moved up to noon, to first experience top-level sports and then enjoy the festival’s diverse culinary and cultural offerings. This created a lively atmosphere, especially on the north shore. The mostly summery weather contributed significantly to the success of the dual event and ensured that large numbers of people made their way to the Maschsee.

Visitor numbers also underscore the success of the dual event: In the first four days, the Maschseefest drew about 150,000 more visitors than last year. Even on opening Wednesday—which this year began at 4 p.m. instead of 6 p.m. with a grand opening show on a floating stage—the festival attracted about 20,000 more guests than last year.

“The first four days have shown just how well the Maschseefest and Die Finals 2026 complement each other. The canoeing and rowing competitions held right on Lake Maschsee were a huge draw for the public and enriched the festival in a special way. Many sports fans were introduced to the lake festival, and conversely, numerous Maschseefest guests spontaneously cheered on the competitors. This dynamic atmosphere was palpable throughout the entire festival grounds. And those who wanted a pure Maschseefest experience had plenty of opportunities to do so, for example at the Geibel or on the south shore at the Löwenbastion,” says André Lawiszus, HVG Managing Director.

Following the successful kickoff of Germany’s largest multisport event, attention now turns to the remaining two weeks of the Maschsee Festival. Through August 9, visitors can continue to enjoy a varied program featuring international cuisine, live music, entertainment, and numerous events around the Maschsee.
