Health - Hannover's No. 1 industry of the future (05.11.2013)

With over 65,000 employees and more than 3,000 companies, the healthcare industry is Hannover’s No. 1 growth market.
To mark the 6th Healthcare Industry Strategy Day on November 7, hannoverimpuls and Hannover Marketing und Tourismus GmbH (HMTG) are now drawing attention to Hannover as a healthcare hub through a nationwide poster campaign and a newspaper insert.

Healthcare Industry Strategy Day – November 7, 2013

Does good medicine have to be more expensive, or could the “right” medicine actually save money? What price must we—or are we willing to—pay for medical progress? Is innovation even possible without risk? How can we strike a balance between the conflicting interests of the various stakeholders?

These and other questions regarding the healthcare sector will be discussed on November 7 in Hanover at the Healthcare Industry Strategy Day by more than 200 decision-makers and opinion leaders from the healthcare industry, taking an interdisciplinary approach and considering various perspectives. Together with Schönermark Kielhorn Collegen Beratungsgesellschaft mbH, hannoverimpuls GmbH has invited renowned speakers to the Hannover Congress Centrum, including Cornelia Rundt (Lower Saxony’s Minister for Social Affairs, Women, Family, Health, and Integration), Prof. Dr. Amy C. Edmondson (Novartis Professor of Leadership and Management at Harvard Business School, via live video link), Prof. Dr. Karl Lauterbach (health policy spokesperson for the SPD parliamentary group in the Bundestag), and Dr. Andreas Tecklenburg (Vice President of the Hannover Medical School).

In conjunction with the Strategy Day, a nationwide poster campaign by HMTG featuring approximately 300 large-format posters—in cities such as Berlin, Bremen, Hamburg, Oldenburg, Leipzig, Frankfurt, and Heidelberg—will draw attention to Hannover as a hub for the healthcare industry. A newspaper insert, published on November 6 in cooperation with the Madsack publishing company and hannoverimpuls, as well as the website www.hannover.de/gesundheitswirtschaft, provide additional information on the healthcare industry in Hannover. “The Hannover region is an outstanding destination for healthcare. This benefits not only residents, who enjoy above-average quality of care, but also stakeholders in the healthcare industry itself. With the Strategy Day, the special supplement, and the HMTG campaign, we are highlighting Hannover’s leading role as a healthcare hub and an attractive place to live and work—nationwide,” says Ralf Meyer, Managing Director of hannoverimpuls.

Healthy into the future: room for innovation

The Hannover region offers internationally outstanding expertise in various fields of research and is home to world-renowned institutions such as the Hannover Medical School (MHH), the International Neuroscience Institute, and the Hannover University of Veterinary Medicine Foundation. Already, one in seven workers in the region is employed in the healthcare sector—creating ideal conditions for successful business start-ups and relocations to the region. With its excellent scientific expertise, particularly in clinical research, the region plays a leading role internationally. Hannover is also a recognized leader in regenerative medicine, biomedical engineering, and healthcare.

Many academic and research institutions have gained international recognition and provide first-rate facilities. For example, the Hannover Medical School has established itself as one of the world’s leading medical institutions. Particularly noteworthy is its specialization in (pre-)clinical research, infectious disease biology, and transplant medicine. The International Neuroscience Institute (INI), a specialized clinic and research facility for a wide range of conditions, has been highly successful.

The Hannover University of Veterinary Medicine (TiHo) Foundation, with its core disciplines of infectious diseases, neuroscience, animal health, food science, and clinical research, is one of the longest-standing institutions of its kind in Europe. The Klinikum Region Hannover (KRH), the region’s leading hospital system with twelve hospitals, is one of Germany’s most significant municipal hospital systems. The Auf der Bult Children’s and Adolescent Hospital is also well-known beyond the region.
