A long pier stretching out into the sea toward the sunset, colorful sailboats whose masts are reflected in the water, a tiger in an Indian jungle palace, or a stately castle perched on a hill surrounded by colorful trees: The Region Hannover is diverse—and can be viewed from many different perspectives.
Around 100 (amateur) photographers responded to the HMTG’s call in early summer to submit photos capturing their favorite views of the Hannover Holiday Region. The winning photos from this contest are now part of the new HMTG advertising campaign. Under the slogan “Hannover Holiday Region – Perspectives,” atmospheric images and fresh perspectives inspire visitors to take a (short) vacation between Wedemark, Hannover, and Springe, Lake Steinhuder Meer, the Horse Region, and Deister.
A total of 800 large-format billboards promote the Region Hannover within a radius of approximately 300 kilometers in German coastal holiday regions such as Emden, Leer, Kiel, Lübeck, and Cuxhaven, as well as in Hamburg, Bremen, Bielefeld, Dortmund, and Münster. Vacationers from all over Germany are warmly invited to discover attractions such as the Hannover Adventure Zoo, Marienburg Castle, Lake Steinhuder Meer, the Herrenhausen Gardens, and the Horse Region. A special bonus: Thanks to a graphic displaying the geographic coordinates on the posters, viewers can see exactly where each location is situated.
In addition, all visitors to the Region Hannover are once again invited to send the HMTG photos capturing their vacation experiences and impressions. Selected photos will then be published in a photo gallery on www.hannover.de/holidayregion.
“The Hannover Holiday Region offers many opportunities for planning an enjoyable vacation in the second half of the year. The focus of our advertising campaign is designed to inspire people to plan their own vacations and leisure activities. We invite visitors from other states to discover the vacation potential of our region and to recommend it to others,” says Hans Christian Nolte, Managing Director of Hannover Marketing und Tourismus GmbH (HMTG).
Hannover’s First Mayor, Bernd Strauch, is convinced of the city’s and the entire region’s recreational and leisure opportunities: “Hannover offers a wide variety of options, especially during the summer months, for entertainment and relaxation, as well as for spending an interesting vacation or holiday. Highly recommended: the new museum at Herrenhausen Palace, combined with a stroll through Electress Sophie’s Great Garden, a visit to the German Museum of Caricature and Drawing, or a canoe trip on the Leine River or a paddleboat ride across Lake Masch. And in less than an hour, water sports enthusiasts can find their own personal paradise at Lake Steinhuder Meer, while nature lovers can do the same in the Deister.”
Regional President Hauke Jagau also praises the attractions of the Region Hannover—and reveals his very own favorite spot: “I share my favorite view with many Hannover residents: the view of the field from my seat at the HDI-Arena—whenever 96 plays there. The Region Hannover is full of wonderful places where you can relax, but also discover the unknown and gain new perspectives. For example, I love the view from the dome of Hannover City Hall. The Herrenhausen Gardens are also a very special place for me, as is Lake Steinhuder Meer with Wilhelmstein Island. I’m curious to see what favorite views the other guests in the Hannover region discover, and I hope that many will participate in the HMTG photo campaign.”
This is the Hannover Holiday Region
Indeed, the Hannover Holiday Region offers a delightful mix of contrasts. Active travelers will find plenty of opportunities for sports and outdoor recreation. Lake Steinhuder Meer, with its maritime charm, is the perfect spot for pedal boating, rowing, swimming, and sunbathing on the beach. A boat tour offers a chance to explore the historic fortress island of Wilhelmstein.
Located about 30 kilometers southwest of Hannover, the Deister—with its peak reaching 405 meters—is a great place for hiking—and Hannover’s local mountain range is also perfect for exploring by bike.
With its predominantly sandy soil, the northeastern part of the Region Hannover offers excellent conditions for riders and horses. The trails wind through nature reserves, past idyllically situated half-timbered farmhouses, and varied landscapes, crossing rivers and lakes along the way.
And in the evening, the state capital of Hannover beckons with its diverse cultural offerings, just a stone’s throw away from the cozy restaurants and pubs in the surrounding countryside. Thanks to short distances and an excellent public transportation network, visitors from the surrounding area can reach downtown Hannover quickly and easily. There, museums and theaters, restaurants and bars, as well as numerous shopping options, offer plenty of variety.
