Old Town Flea Market Returns with Extended Hours (April 3, 2014)

Starting immediately, visitors will once again have two extra hours every Saturday to stroll, browse, and haggle.

The Old Town flea market on the Hohe Ufer is a hive of activity around the Nanas.

With the change in the clocks, the summer season is back in full swing at the Old Town Flea Market: Starting now, visitors once again have two extra hours every Saturday to stroll, browse, and haggle. From Saturday, April 5, through the end of October, the Old Town Flea Market will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Anyone wishing to participate as a vendor at the “Am Hohen Ufer” flea market is asked to check in with the supervisory staff well in advance of the market’s opening. Stalls must be fully set up one hour before the market opens. To preserve the character of this traditional market, the sale of new goods is not permitted. Exhibitors and visitors can find more information at www.hannover.de/flohmarkt

Since 1967, the Old Town Flea Market has been inviting visitors every Saturday to stroll, browse, and haggle in Hanover’s Old Town. “Am Hohen Ufer,” numerous vendors present a diverse selection of goods. This traditional flea market is known far beyond Hanover’s city limits. People even travel from the Netherlands, Belgium, and neighboring German states to take part. New and mass-produced goods are not sold here. Instead, visitors can browse through art and kitsch, bric-a-brac, and odds and ends—and discover treasures such as antique candlesticks, chests from grandmother’s time, ornate picture frames, or truly unique jewelry. In addition, the selection ranges from pictures from various decades to medals, rugs, ornate porcelain, and fine glassware, all the way to comic books, records, CDs, toys, tools, table linens, and painting supplies.
