Half-time review Maschseefest 2014 (08.08.2014)

The 2014 Maschseefest kicked off the summer vacation season with a spectacular start. Despite the unpredictable weather, organizers reported over 1.1 million visitors to Lower Saxony’s largest folk festival.

So far, there have been about 66 musical performances by rousing live acts such as Nomfusi, the new soul sensation from South Africa; Mallorca star Micki Krause; German country singer Gunter Gabriel; and Marquess. In addition, this year’s Maschseefest featured over 35 DJ sets and about 25 performances by cabaret artists, who entertained the audience.

Hundreds of children took part in the children’s festival and enjoyed the play area set up for the Maschsee Festival. The staff from kulturtransfair and their partner organization Xiè-Xiè were thrilled by the cheerful and relaxed atmosphere. The ever-popular pirate ship “üstralala” is turning 50—and is more in demand than ever: All past and upcoming trips are fully booked! And another anniversary will be celebrated this coming Tuesday, August 12, around 4:00 p.m., when the 5,000th Maschsee pirate disembarks and receives tickets to the Hannover Adventure Zoo as a prize.

The Maschseefest’s national profile has been significantly boosted by extensive coverage from our media partners as well as promotional efforts by the national press. This is evidenced by approximately 1.3 million page views on the website www.maschseefest.de (last year, a total of 1.6 million page views were recorded). The Maschseefest app—a service app that is redesigned every year—was downloaded approximately 5,500 times this year. The Facebook fan page also underscores the popularity of Lower Saxony’s largest open-air festival: it has more than 30,700 fans.

With good weather expected again tonight, the organizer anticipates more than 150,000 guests at the lake. Unique musical acts and sporting activities are also expected on and around the lake for the second half of the Maschsee Festival.

On Sunday, August 10, Antenne Niedersachsen is hosting the traditional “Crazy Crossing” fun boat race—a special experience for the whole family. Additional highlights will be featured on the Maschsee stage: from “Soul Control” with classics from the ’60s and ’70s (August 13) to “Peppermint Petty” (August 15) to “Sugarplumfairy” (August 16)—there’s something for everyone. The Löwenbastion will also feature unique performances by “Die Rexis” (August 9), “Lotto King Karl & Die Barmbek Dream Boys” (Aug. 13), and Christian Steiffen (Aug. 16). The 29th Maschseefest will wrap up on Aug. 17 with “Sweety Glitter & The Sweethearts” at the Löwenbastion and “The Rock Foundation” at the Maschseequelle.
