Hanover Showcases Itself in Russia (October 7, 2014)

Hannover Marketing und Tourismus GmbH (HMTG) is promoting visits to Hannover in Russia: In cooperation with the German National Tourist Board (DZT), it will showcase Hannover’s best features at the “Roadshow Russia” from October 7 to 10.

Hanover Showcases Itself in Russia

The stops include St. Petersburg, Moscow, and, for the first time, Yekaterinburg, the capital of the Urals. These three major cities cover key source markets for travel to Germany.

The annual Russia Roadshow offers an ideal platform to introduce oneself to the Russian travel industry and target key future and growth markets. Visitors to the roadshow—including product managers, hotel buyers, operations managers, and representatives of the trade press—are specifically invited by the German National Tourist Board (DZT) in Russia. Approximately 100 trade visitors are expected at each location.

“Russian citizens are interested in traveling to Germany. We can already see this in the high visitor numbers—and we now want to capitalize on this potential even more,” says Hans Christian Nolte, managing director of Hannover Marketing und Tourismus GmbH. In particular, the Advent season and the period leading up to the Russian Christmas on January 7 are popular times for Russian tourists to take a shopping trip to German cities.

With approximately 28,000 guest overnight stays and over 14,000 overnight guests (arrivals) from Russia, the Russian Federation—supported by the activities of Deutsche Messe (among other things, Russia was the partner country at HANNOVER MESSE in 2013) —was one of the strongest source markets for Hanover in 2013, alongside the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.

To further develop the Russian market and promote Hannover’s diversity and appeal to Russian citizens, HMTG is planning a partnership with the airline Aeroflot. The airline offers daily direct flights from Moscow to Hannover (and back). Among other things, preparations are currently underway to reissue a promotional brochure in Russian, which will be made available on the planes.

Hanover has good connections to Russia via Hanover Airport: In addition to Aeroflot, the airlines Utair (Moscow) and Orenair (Omsk, Barnaul, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk) operate flights between Russia and Hanover.

Central Europe Workshop in Potsdam

Immediately following the “Russia Roadshow,” Hannover Marketing und Tourismus GmbH will be presenting itself on October 12 and 13 in Potsdam at the Central Europe Workshop, which is also organized by the DZT.

The workshop will take place for the fourth time in 2014 and has become a successful marketing tool for targeting the Central and Southeastern European markets of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Montenegro, Austria, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Ukraine, and Hungary. The international buyers consist of tour operators and group organizers, as well as journalists from the trade and consumer press.

Plans are also currently underway for HMTG’s marketing activities aimed at international networking in 2015.
