The Hanover region can look forward to welcoming royal guests: His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent will visit Marienburg Castle! The Queen’s cousin and grandson of King George V of Great Britain and Ireland will deliver opening remarks at the exhibition “The Path to the Crown—The Kingdom of Hanover and Its Rulers” on April 30. Representatives of the German aristocracy, as well as high-profile guests from the worlds of politics and business, have also announced their attendance. For example, Lower Saxony’s Minister President Stephan Weil will attend the exhibition opening.
Prince Andrew Visits Herrenhausen Palace
The 300th anniversary of the personal union between Great Britain and Hanover has prompted the British royal family to visit the Hanover region twice in quick succession. As previously announced on March 31, His Royal Highness Prince Andrew, Duke of York, will visit the state capital of Hanover on June 4. The Queen’s second-eldest son will be a guest at Herrenhausen Palace, where the traditional garden party in honor of Queen Elizabeth II’s birthday is taking place this year. British Ambassador Simon McDonald had moved the reception from Berlin to Hanover in 2014 to mark the anniversary of the personal union.
Ernst August, Hereditary Prince of Hanover, extends an invitation to Marienburg Castle
Marienburg Castle, located south of Hanover, was built by King George V as a gift for his wife and is one of Germany’s most significant Neo-Gothic monuments. It remains in the Guelph family’s possession to this day. Ernst August, Hereditary Prince of Hanover and great-great-great-grandson of Queen Marie and King George V (Hanover), has transformed the Guelph residence into a cultural hub in the Hanover region in recent years—and looks forward to welcoming many international guests. “2014 is a special year for the House of Hanover. I’m looking forward to our exhibition, the extensive supporting program, and as many enthusiastic visitors as possible.”
