Among the cultural highlights is the opening of the expansion wing of the Sprengel Museum Hannover. The new, elegant structure—made of anthracite-colored concrete and designed by the Swiss architectural firm Meili/Peter—covers a total of 5,300 m², including 1,400 m² of exhibition space. The exhibition “Ten Rooms, Three Loggias, and a Hall,” running from September 19, 2015, through January 10, 2016, will highlight the new spaces while also featuring artistic highlights.

The expansion creates even more space for art: a boon for Hanover as a cultural hub, which Hannover Marketing und Tourismus GmbH (HMTG) will be promoting in the Hanover region and in Hamburg starting September 11—for example, with 150 large-format posters and megalights. In addition, exterior and interior views of the extension grace the cover of the latest issue of the Hanover magazine “Tipps und Termine.” It is now available for download at www.hannover.de/tippsundtermine..

Tips and events for an eventful fall

The fall issue of “Tips and Events” provides an overview of other art and cultural events, such as the major retrospective of American sculptor and installation artist Rita McBride at the kestnergesellschaft (Oct. 17, 2015 – Jan. 10, 2016), the Festival of Cultures (September 19–20), and the International Joseph Joachim Violin Competition. Starting September 27, violinists from 14 countries will compete to win the highly endowed competition organized by the Lower Saxony Foundation.

And even those who prefer to spend this colorful season outdoors will find plenty to enjoy in the Hannover vacation region: whether it’s the Regional Discovery Day with 35 tour destinations and exciting activities for children and teens (Sept. 13), the 800th anniversary of the city of Neustadt with a medieval market, sightseeing tours, and a music program (Sept. 11–13), the Oktoberfest with a lantern parade, Miss Dirndl pageant, and numerous rides (Sept. 25–Oct. 11), the Autumn Kite Festival on the Kronsberg (Sept. 25–27), or the “Steelman” Cross-Adventure highlight—taking place for the second time at the Neue Bult horse racing track (Nov. 1) — fall in Hanover and the surrounding municipalities has something for everyone.

The third season is also celebrated in all its splendor at the Herrenhausen Gardens, which were just named the best historic garden in Europe. Highlights include the lantern parade, the chili exhibition in the Berggarten (Oct. 30–Nov. 22), and the Herrenhausen Fall Festival. Events such as the Hubertus Festival at the bison enclosure in Springe (Oct. 24 & 25), the Oktobermarkt in Burgdorf (Oct. 2–4), the Pumpkin Festival in Eldagsen (Oct. 3 & 4), and the Tiergartenfest (Oct. 10) round out the fall program.

When the weather outside isn't so great, it's time to go shopping! In downtown Hanover, visitors will find countless shopping options, and there are also several Sundays when stores are open for business in the region: on September 27, for example, people can browse and shop on Sundays in Barsinghausen, Garbsen, Lehrte, and Gehrden, and on October 4 in Hanover, Burgdorf, and Springe.

To ensure a varied and comfortable stay in the Hannover vacation region, Hannover Marketing und Tourismus GmbH (HMTG) has put together exciting experience packages—including hotel accommodations. You can find an overview and more information about your stay in Hanover in the current issue of “Tipps und Termine,” at www.hannover.de/erlebnispakete, www.hannover.de/urlaubsregion, and www.visit-hannover.com.
