Hanover Is More Affordable Than Ever for Swiss Visitors

Hannover Marketing und Tourismus GmbH (HMTG) is currently promoting the city in collaboration with the “9 Cities in Lower Saxony” partnership through large-scale posters at Zurich Central Station and articles in Swiss magazines. Due to the current exchange rate, Hannover is more affordable for Swiss travelers than ever before—and is an ideal venue for conferences and conventions, as well as an attractive destination for cultural and shopping trips.

Hold a conference at one of the region’s many conference venues and take advantage of their central locations, diverse offerings, and state-of-the-art facilities—then take a detour with your colleagues to the Maschseefest. Stroll through the Baroque Herrenhäuser Gardens or shop to your heart’s content in the pedestrian zone with its popular shopping streets, and afterward, enjoy a cocktail on a rooftop terrace while taking in a bird’s-eye view of Hanover. Or take a trip to one of the historic “9 Cities in Lower Saxony,” such as Celle or Goslar: A poster campaign at Zurich’s main train station now showcases just how diverse the options are in the areas of travel, conferences, and culture for visitors to the Hanover region and the 9 Cities. For two weeks, several large-format posters featuring scenes from Hanover will be displayed at Switzerland’s largest train station and transportation hub, promoting a visit to the capital of Lower Saxony. The posters can reach up to 450,000 people per day. The advertising campaign is rounded out by advertisements in the *Tagesanzeiger Zürich*, the magazine of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB), the travel magazine *FerienTrends*, and a contest.

“For Swiss citizens and businesses, travel to Germany is currently more affordable than ever and particularly appealing—a great opportunity to highlight Hanover as an ideal location for conventions and conferences, as a destination for a city break with a wide range of cultural and entertainment options, or as a shopping destination,” explains Hans Christian Nolte, managing director of HMTG.

Perfectly Connected: Zurich and Hanover

Hanover is easily accessible from Switzerland: SWISS operates flights between the two cities several times a day, and Deutsche Bahn also offers direct train service from Zurich to Hanover several times a day. The highway connection is also extremely convenient. This is reflected in the number of overnight stays: in 2014, Switzerland ranked fifth in the state-wide ranking with 20,413 guest overnight stays.

“Switzerland has traditionally been one of Hannover’s most important source markets. We run advertising campaigns there on a regular basis,” Nolte concludes.

Present abroad all year round

In addition, the HMTG maintains a constant presence abroad, often in collaboration with the “9 Cities in Lower Saxony” partnership and the “Magic Cities” network. For example, activities in 2015 include engagements in the Scandinavian countries of Sweden and Denmark, in neighboring Belgium, the Netherlands, and Poland, as well as in the United Kingdom, Spain, Brazil, and China.
