A Successful 2016: Strong Results for Private City Tours in Hanover

4,650 students, 1,923 groups totaling approximately 48,000 visitors, about 19,000 participants in public walking tours and sightseeing tours, and 6,330 guests who booked an experience package—these are the impressive results for 2016!

Under the motto “Get to Know Your Hannover,” the tour guides from Hannover Marketing und Tourismus GmbH (HMTG) have led 4,650 students through the Old Town, the New Town Hall, and the Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen this year. To mark the Reformation anniversary, the program will be expanded next year to include the tour “500 Years of the Reformation – Luther, Brötchen, and Mr. Käthe.”

Among the private guided tours, “Hannover on Foot”—a walk through the city center and Old Town—and “Royal Garden Splendor”—a tour of the Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen—were among the most popular.

The culinary tour “Hanno(ver)nascht,” which takes guests to traditional restaurants, charming cafés, and quaint pubs, saw the biggest increase compared to the previous year.

Hans Christian Nolte, managing director of HMTG, is pleased with the increased interest in the city’s history and attractions: “Especially considering how rainy the summer was, this is a great result.”

Overnight guests showed great interest in the experience packages for the Herrenhausen International Fireworks Competition, the Hannover Zoo, and the GOP Varieté Theater. The “Out and About with Your Club and Friends” package was particularly popular among associations, bowling clubs, and other groups.
