The 2017 Schedule and Teams

May 20: Spain, Astondoa Piroteknia
The family-owned business is now run by Izaskun Astondoa, the fourth generation of the family. For their shows, the Spanish team focuses on traditional and bespoke elements: their music selection and special effects create emotional and powerful fireworks displays. Their collaborations with musicians such as Paul McCartney and Beyoncé further highlight their artistic flair. Furthermore, the team has already demonstrated its expertise at numerous competitions, including the 2016 International Fireworks Competition in San Sebastián, the 2014 Champions International Competition in Bilbao, the 2011 Castellón Fireworks Festival, and the 2009 Pyronale in Berlin.

June 10: Austria, steyrFire
Since its founding in 1995, the company has focused primarily on musical fireworks displays, featuring a promising mix of classical, funk, rock, and pop music. They have already demonstrated their quality through numerous commissions and competitions. For example, their show for the opening of “Linz09 – European Capital of Culture” garnered significant attention. The team’s references include, among others, first place at the Potsdam Fireworks Symphonies in 2007, 2008, and 2015, as well as first place at the Festival International d’Art Pyrotechnique in France.

Pyrotex Fireworx

August 19: England, Pyrotex Fireworx
The English team has over 35 years of experience and expertise in the fields of pyrotechnics and the music industry. Passion, dedication, creativity, and enthusiasm have made this small company a success. Pyrotex Fireworx arrives in Hannover with numerous victories under its belt: They took first place at the International Music Fireworks Competition in Monaco in 2012 and 2014, second place at the Pyronale in Berlin in 2015, and first place at the 7th Philippine International Pyromusical Competition in 2016. They also took first place at this year’s Belgian festival in Knokke-Heist.

September 2: Poland, SUREX
SUREX has been run as a family business since 1993 under the motto “Our Passion, Your Emotions.” The Polish team specializes in the technical design and execution of large-scale musical fireworks displays for special occasions, such as the 2014 inauguration of the Olympic Training Center in Szczyrk or the celebrations marking Wrocław’s city anniversary. They have also achieved many successes in international competitions: In 2012, the team took 3rd place at the Shanghai International Music Fireworks Festival, and in 2012 and 2014, they took 1st and 2nd place at the International Fireworks Competition in Pohang, South Korea.

September 16: USA, Rozzi's Famous Fireworks
After 19 years, the International Fireworks Competition is once again welcoming a team from the United States. Rozzi’s Famous Fireworks was founded in southern Italy in 1895; shortly thereafter, Paolo Rozzi immigrated to the United States. Today, the family business is run by Nancy Rozzi, the fifth generation of the family. A spirit of innovation, vibrancy, color quality, complex imagery, and perfect timing characterize the team’s fireworks displays. Rozzi’s Famous Fireworks designs over 50 pyromusical shows annually in the U.S., organizes the “Fire Up The Night” fireworks display at Coney Island Park in Cincinnati, Ohio, and most recently took first place at the Blackpool Fireworks Competition in England.

Supporting program

The competition is rounded out by a vibrant supporting program—set against the magnificent backdrop of the Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen, which were recently named “Europe’s best historic garden.” Before the fireworks teams enchant the audience with their interpretation of the compulsory piece and a subsequent freestyle routine, live music, cabaret, and theater performances tailored to the theme of the participating country will entertain visitors of all ages starting at 6:30 p.m.

All events were sold out in 2016, with a total of around 55,000 guests attending the International Fireworks Competition in Herrenhausen.

For anyone who would like to combine a visit to the International Fireworks Competition with an overnight stay in Hannover, the HMTG has put together the “Hannover Explosive” experience package.

New: The winter supplement "Tips & Dates" will also be available digitally starting Friday, November 18, 2016, with a print run of 1.5 million copies. It features many concert highlights and events for the coming year. Gift ideas for St. Nicholas Day and Christmas can also be found in the supplement at www.hannover.de/beilage.
