Welcome to Hannover
Japan Meets Hannover: Partner Country of CeBIT 2017
Next year, Japan will be the partner country at CeBIT—and to mark the occasion, a Japanese-language brochure has been produced. It provides an initial overview of various location factors, as well as the special ties that Hannover shares with Japan.
The Great Garden in Herrenhausen
A thriving economic hub in the heart of Europe, a well-connected location, and a fascinating array of recreational activities—in Hanover, all of these elements come together with excellent yet affordable housing and a beautiful natural setting in one of Germany’s greenest major cities.
Japan meets Hannover—and with it, numerous friendly ties and a warm welcome to the capital of Lower Saxony. The central link is the city partnership with Hiroshima, which was established as early as 1938. Since then, relations have been consistently fostered through associations and initiatives, peace work, and mutual visits. Hannover’s Mayor Stefan Schostok is also Vice Chair of the organization “Mayors for Peace,” which was founded in 1982 by the Mayor of Hiroshima.
Visible symbols of this partnership include the Peace Bell in the ruins of St. Aegidius Church, which is rung every year on August 6 to commemorate the atomic bombing; the Japanese tea house in City Park; the popular sushi stand at the Maschsee Festival; and the Hiroshima Grove, where the Cherry Blossom Festival is held every April.
Nature and tranquility—with all the benefits of a big city
Hanover's Old Town
Life in Hannover is rich and varied: world-class cultural and sporting events, an impressive array of museums, exclusive shopping in one of Germany’s largest pedestrian zones, as well as the famous Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen and the picturesque Old Town. Legendary events such as the Maschsee Festival and the world’s largest Marksmen´s Fair attract crowds of tourists and locals every year.
We look forward to seeing you in Hannover and extend a warm welcome to you!
