City Anniversary: Discover Your Hannover!

A View of the Entire City: Under this motto, Hannover Marketing und Tourismus GmbH (HMTG) invites you to embark on a journey of discovery through Hannover’s 13 districts to celebrate the city’s 775th anniversary.

To mark the city’s anniversary, in collaboration with experts Professor Dr. Thomas Schwark, Director of the Museums of Cultural History, and Sid Auffarth, an architectural historian, short walking tours have been created for each city district, each highlighting the most historically significant sites and neighborhoods in that area. These particularly distinctive places and landmarks include some well-established fixtures in the cityscape, such as the New City Hall, the Great Garden, or the Anzeiger skyscraper. The tour also introduces and describes hidden gems and lesser-known sites, such as the Edelhof Chapel, the Teutonia II cement plant, the Brüggemannhof, and others.

“We hope this summer campaign will encourage residents to go on a discovery tour on foot through the neighboring district or to get to know their own neighborhood from an urban historical perspective,” explains Hans Christian Nolte, managing director of Hannover Marketing und Tourismus GmbH.

The campaign, which kicks off on June 21, features over 600 posters that will be displayed on advertising columns throughout the city until the end of summer vacation, thanks to the support of Ströer Deutsche Städte Medien GmbH. These 13 different poster designs will also be featured on banners at the family festival taking place on June 26 around the New City Hall to celebrate the city’s anniversary. A fold-out map with an overview describes the unique features of today’s city districts and presents the historically significant locations and neighborhoods in detail. This accompanying fold-out map will be available starting June 20 at the Tourist Information office at Ernst-August-Platz 8, at the citizen service centers, and at many public institutions such as libraries and community centers.

All tours, locations, addresses, and additional information are now available online at www.Hannover.de/DeinHannover.

Photo competition

To complement the campaign, there is a photo contest in which all residents of Hanover can submit their best photos of the city’s districts. These photos will be featured, among other places, in a photo gallery on the website www.Hannover.de/DeinHannover. The email address for the photo contest is: sommerfoto@hannover-marketing.de. The deadline for submissions is September 3, 2016.

The five best entries from each city district will each receive two tickets to the finals of the International Fireworks Competition on September 17, 2016, at the Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen.
