Hello, Austria
The International Fireworks Competition welcomes the steyrFire team
On June 10, 2017, the Austrian steyrFire team will be guests at the Herrenhäuser Gärten for the second competition event.
Equestrian skills with the Austrian team steyrFire
René and Niki Langer describe their immediate reaction as “gigantic” when they visited the Herrenhausen Gardens for the first time last year. The garden’s immense setting, symmetry, and perfection made a particularly strong impression on them. These elements are meant to be reflected in their fireworks display, in part through their choice of effects. The theme of their show is based on an old Alpine tradition—the so-called “Raunächte” (Witching Nights). During the Raunächte, evil spirits are driven away, people look forward to the end of winter, and hope for a fruitful new year. The Austrians’ pyromusical begins in the depths of winter, transitions into spring with the expulsion of the spirits, and ends in summer with the grand finale.

Before the fireworks begin at 10:30 p.m., golden, gleaming figures on stilts welcome visitors at the entrance gate. Magnificent equestrian artistry can be admired at the Western Crescent—where Baroque elements of the Haute École are presented. Under the direction of Richard Hinrichs, the riders of the Institute for Classical Riding Hannover e. V., dressed in historical costumes and riding 25 horses of various breeds—including Lipizzans, Andalusians, Lusitanos, Kladrubers, Friesians, and Hanoverians—will present the highlights. Fancy a slice of Sachertorte, or would you prefer a Mozartkugel? The little mobile café is a tempting feast for the eyes. Holler My Dear serves up acoustic pop on the rehearsal stage, mixing in some swing and funk. The young singer Laura from Graz even has a yodeling certificate. Lively waltzes and well-known melodies from opera and operetta at the Garden Theater—the Melange ensemble knows what once set the tone in the salons. On the grand staircase, the clowns Alex and Joschi make the audience laugh with heart, humor, acrobatics, juggling, and slapstick. On the children’s lawn, little stories turn into magical moments—even if something always seems to go wrong with magician Ludgero.
The Team: steyrFire
Team Austria - steyrFire
What began as a hobby was turned into a professional venture in 1995 when René Langer and Kurt Reichenpfader founded steyrFire. Since its founding, the company has focused primarily on musical fireworks displays, featuring a promising mix of classical, funk, rock, and pop music. They have already demonstrated their quality through a wide variety of commissions and competitions. For instance, their show for the opening of “Linz09 – European Capital of Culture,” during which the music was performed live by a choir and over 400 singers, garnered significant international attention. The team’s references include, among others, first place at the Potsdam Fireworks Symphonies in 2007, 2008, 2015, and 2016; first place at the Festival International d’Art Pyrotechnique in France; and second place at the Malta International Fireworks Festival in 2014.
