The biggest surprise was Hannover!* - Visit Hannover

Bloggers welcome

The biggest surprise was Hanover!*

About 70 travel bloggers visited Hanover this year and shared their personal highlights and discoveries on their blogs and social media accounts.

This resulted in about 80 blog posts, 5 videos, and numerous photos on Instagram under the hashtag #visithannover. Many travel bloggers were visiting Hannover for the first time and explored the city on their own. They share up-to-date reports from their personal perspective and often offer plenty of insider tips through videos and photos. This has led to beautiful descriptions, fresh insights, and new perspectives, such as:

"Hanover—Berlin's (laid-back) little sister!"
(Published in *spoor* 4/2017, the magazine of the Dutch Railways)

* “The biggest surprise was Hannover!”

“The fireworks in the Herrenhausen Gardens were magical, just like the place where they took place.”
(Belgian blog: www.justyentl.com)

Most of the bloggers came from the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, and Germany, but Hannover Marketing und Tourismus GmbH also welcomed bloggers from Finland, Poland, Sweden, Brazil, and China. About 40 bloggers were guests in the capital of Lower Saxony as part of the first travel blogger meetup on August 5, 2017. The program included guided tours of the Linden and Nordstadt neighborhoods, as well as a group visit to the Maschsee Festival. When you add up all the blogs that featured stories about Hanover this year, the reach is impressive: about 1.7 million unique visitors per month, just under 4 million page impressions per month, and a total of about 850,000 loyal social media followers.

Hans Christian Nolte, CEO of HMTG, is pleased with the numerous blog posts: “Bloggers convey their own perspective on Hanover. They are authentic and credible, and in some cases highlight places that we don’t even focus on in our traditional tourism marketing.”

The influence of travel blogs on the planning of city trips or vacations is growing steadily. Personal accounts and insider tips are playing an increasingly important role, especially when it comes to travel inspiration. HMTG currently has access to the overnight stay figures from the Lower Saxony State Office for Statistics through September: the state capital has recorded a 2.4 percent increase so far, while the Hanover region has seen a 3.6 percent increase compared to the previous year.
