A Space for Innovation: From June 10 to 18, 2017, the organizers of IdeenExpo—a hands-on, educational, and interactive fair—will spark an interest in technology and a spirit of inquiry among children and young people. Companies, associations, universities, and schools will showcase numerous exhibits. There will also be a special focus on career guidance. Whether it’s robot building, crime scene investigations, or cosmetics production—with over 600 workshops, there’s something for everyone. From August 25 to 27, 2017, creative minds, inventors, and unconventional thinkers will once again present their out-of-the-box ideas at the Maker Faire in the Hannover Congress Centrum. The motto “Touching and trying things out is expressly permitted” is particularly well-received by young visitors.

The goal is to draw the attention of qualified professionals to the well-connected Region Hannover and to provide a concise overview of the many good reasons to settle here. The website www.hannover.de/fachkraefte provides answers to a wide variety of questions related to training, higher education, and careers. It offers information and contacts for apprenticeship and job boards, as well as vocational schools and career counseling centers. The site also covers degree programs, continuing education opportunities, the dual training system, and useful information on starting a business.

Well-known brands give the Hannover economic region international appeal: The automotive industry is particularly significant, with technology leaders such as Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Continental, Johnson Controls, and WABCO. Companies such as Bahlsen, BAUKING, BREE, Heise, KIND Hearing Aids, Komatsu, MTU Maintenance, Rossmann, Sennheiser electronic, Solvay Deutschland, TUI, and VSM are based here. Major insurers such as Concordia, VGH, and VHV, as well as the Talanx Group with brands like Hannover Re and HDI, have their headquarters here, as does the financial services provider Swiss Life. Nord/LB shapes the cityscape with the unique architecture of its headquarters and, together with Sparkasse Hannover, ranks among the leading financial institutions in northern Germany. In the media sector, the publishing company Madsack, Schlütersche Verlagsgesellschaft, and the television producer TVN are among the key players of national importance. In addition to NDR and ZDF, several private radio and television stations broadcast from Hannover, including radio ffn, Antenne Niedersachsen, RADIO 21, and the shopping TV channel CHANNEL 21.

The Hannover trade fair and business region benefits greatly from its central location within the European transportation network. The A2 and A7 highways intersect here, forming the most important east-west and north-south road connections. The Deutsche Bahn ICE network provides direct connections to all major German metropolitan areas. The Hannover Central Bus Station (ZOB) is one of the most modern in Germany. Buses from all major long-distance bus lines and large tour operators stop here. All major European destinations are directly accessible from Hannover Airport. The Mittelland Canal, Germany’s longest artificial waterway, connects Hannover with the continent’s largest seaports and inland ports.
