Growing More International: 1,965,511 Overnight Stays in the Hanover Region!

The state capital of Hanover recorded 1,133,962 overnight stays from January through June, while the greater Hanover region recorded 1,965,511 overnight stays in the first half of the year.

Even after the last two record-breaking years, the Hanover region recorded more overnight stays in the first half of 2017. With 1,133,962 guest overnight stays between January and June, the capital of Lower Saxony saw a 2.3 percent increase compared to the same period last year. For the entire Hanover region, the Lower Saxony State Statistical Office recorded 1,965,511 overnight stays, representing an increase of 3.5 percent. The average length of stay remained stable at 1.8 days overall. The occupancy rate for available accommodations in the state capital has remained at a very high level, currently standing at 46 percent. By comparison, the average occupancy rate in the state of Lower Saxony is 30.5 percent.

International Guests
The increase in the number of overnight stays by international guests is particularly encouraging: The state capital saw a 4.9 percent increase, while the region as a whole recorded a 10.3 percent increase compared to 2016.
“The Hannover region is a popular travel destination, especially for visitors from abroad. I am pleased to see that our region is becoming increasingly attractive both as a vacation destination and for business, trade show, and conference tourism,” said Hans Christian Nolte, Managing Director of Hannover Marketing und Tourismus GmbH, commenting on the positive half-year results.
Strong growth in guest overnight stays was also recorded from the 2017 trade fair partner countries: Japan, the CeBIT partner country, saw an increase of 88.1 percent, while the share of guests from Poland—a partner of the Hannover Messe—rose by 29.4 percent in the Hannover region.
