Proud aquatic creatures have saddled up their seahorses and welcome the 11,000 visitors to the finale of the International Fireworks Competition in the Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen. Weiawaka Wakaikura strolls through the botanical gardens with her protected offspring, perhaps offering a glimpse of her shy kiwi. On the children’s lawn, Circus Salto and Circus Bunttropfen invite you to a show featuring juggling, clowns, and balancing acts. Wellington-born singer-songwriter Teresa Bergmann showcases her talent in the Garden Theater with her powerful voice: a refreshing performance full of energy and a healthy dose of soul. On the rehearsal stage, the one-man band Sonic Delusion presents lighthearted and surprising loops—too funky for folk and too folky for funk! New Generation of Swing: Juliano Rossi spreads true cult status on the awards stage with his unmistakable voice and cool understatement.
At 9:00 p.m., this year’s finale of the 28th International Fireworks Competition will begin with a display by Firework Professionals. Lachlan Findlay, the New Zealand team’s choreographer, is looking forward to the show at the Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen: “The gardens are beautiful; some areas even remind me a little of the Botanical Gardens in Christchurch—though of course everything is much larger and more impressive here. Thanks to this unique setting, certain aspects of the show were immediately clear to us. The music selection was a bit unusual—everyone on the team wanted to contribute something. Now we’ve found a great mix that represents us as a nation. We’re excited to present it to the audience and are very curious to see their reactions—because in New Zealand, unfortunately, most shows aren’t choreographed to music.”
The Team: Firework Professionals from New Zealand
For nearly forty years, Firework Professionals has been designing dazzling pyrotechnic displays and delivering high-quality commercial fireworks in New Zealand. They are particularly well-known for their special effects for the film, TV, and concert industries—international tours by AC/DC and Walt Disney in New Zealand have already been supported by Firework Professionals. Based in Christchurch, they produce professional fireworks displays nationwide and design many shows for official celebrations such as anniversaries, opening ceremonies, or holidays. In addition to New Zealand, they have made a name for themselves particularly in the Pacific Islands, for example with the large fireworks display celebrating Samoa’s Independence Day. Firework Professionals have also been admired at many competitions, including the 2006 “International Music and Fireworks Festival” in Shanghai and the 2010 “Flammende Sterne” in Ostfildern.
The dates for the 29th International Fireworks Competition:
