With IdeenExpo, Fête de la Musique, and the Chortage—nonstop music in Hanover!
A bang to kick off the summer: All music fans should mark the weekend of June 21–23 on their calendars and plan a visit to Hanover, the UNESCO City of Music.
UNESCO City of Music: Hanover
At the Fête de la Musique on Friday, June 21, Hanover’s downtown will become an open-air stage for over 1,200 musicians starting at 1:00 p.m. Under the motto “Vive la musique,” the world’s largest music festival in Hanover will celebrate the start of summer on nearly 40 stages and in public squares. This year, numerous international musicians from the UNESCO Cities of Music networks and Hannover’s sister cities—including those from New Zealand, England, Poland, and France—will also be participating. A special children’s stage offers a colorful program for families, while the electronic music scene gathers at Steintorplatz for a “festival within a festival.”
On Friday evening, the action continues on the IdeenExpo main stage. The rap-rock band Tiavo, rapper Weekend, and the hit duo SDP will perform at the exhibition grounds. IdeenExpo is Europe’s largest youth event for science and technology. Now in its 7th edition, the event space has grown to 110,000 square meters and invites visitors to explore the exciting world of science and technology through more than 670 engaging, hands-on exhibits spread across four halls. On Saturday evening, things will get loud again on the IdeenExpo main stage—as the grand finale, the German-French hip-hop band Passepartout, singer-songwriter Hugo Helmig, and the stars of Sunrise Avenue will set off a musical fireworks display. Best of all: Admission to IdeenExpo—and to all the concerts—is free!
Hanover welcomes choral music lovers to the 11th Chortage with a top-notch program featuring nearly 50 participating ensembles from Germany and abroad. From June 22–29, the various choirs will perform in impressive venues such as the Galerie Herrenhausen and the NDR Sendesaal. With the “Samson” project, the 2019 Chortage offers choir members the opportunity—for the third time—to participate in a large sing-along concert. Here, they can perform alongside international soloists under the baton of conductor Nicholas McGegan in Georg Friedrich Handel’s magnificent oratorio “Samson.” At the opening concert in the Christuskirche, guest choirs from Lübeck and Lucerne, as well as the Collegium Vocale from Hanover, will perform choral music with the highest level of professionalism.
To complement this, Hannover Marketing und Tourismus GmbH is offering an experience package that includes two nights’ hotel accommodations. For €149 per person in a double room, music fans can stay at a 4-star hotel, take part in the “Sound of Hannover” musical tour, and enjoy Hannover’s many musical offerings from June 21–23, 2019.
