Traveling without moving – Europe takes a virtual trip to Hannover
Thanks to 360° digital tours, the Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen, the Nanas, Marienburg Castle, the Fairground, and the New City Hall are now on tour across Germany and Europe.
Hannover Marketing und Tourismus GmbH’s (HMTG) multimedia advertising campaign focuses, in addition to digital activities, on trains, train stations, and billboards in city centers throughout Germany. Through the end of January, two ICE trains featuring the well-known Hannover motifs in a “360° globe format” will travel across the country. Large-scale billboards at train stations—such as in Kassel, Düsseldorf, Stuttgart, and Frankfurt—as well as in city centers from Hamburg to Munich will further draw attention to the advertising campaign. Each billboard features a Hannover highlight that invites viewers to take a virtual tour. By scanning the QR code on the posters, travelers can access the virtual 360° tours directly. Using a smartphone or tablet, Hannover fans can take a digital tour and immerse themselves in their own personal journey to the highlights of the Hannover region. Advertisements in daily newspapers in northern Germany, in-app advertising from central Germany to the coast, and ads on social media platforms round out our domestic activities.
In other European countries, such as the United Kingdom, Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, Italy, and Spain, tailored in-app advertising is also being served on mobile devices. Country-specific campaigns on social media platforms, banner ads, advertorials, and newspaper inserts between Christmas and New Year’s Day round out the marketing activities. Under the motto “Stay healthy—see you in 2021!”, the virtual Hannover offerings are accompanied by an invitation to visit in person next year.
Hans Nolte, Managing Director of HMTG, commented: “The current ‘Restart’ campaign for 2021 highlights Hannover’s economic and tourism strengths, both in the leisure and business travel sectors.”
The “Travelling without moving” campaign was launched by HMTG at the end of March and has since been expanded to include numerous new tours and virtual trips. To date, the campaign has generated over 4.5 million views, with visitors spending up to 3 minutes on the 360-degree tours. In addition to the well-known sightseeing attractions, the campaign specifically targets business travel tourism with the Fairground and the numerous conference venues. In this segment, which is significant for the Hannover region, the HannoverKongress office has been pleased to note a significant increase in demand for conferences and conventions for 2021 since the end of November.
