After a very sunny start on Wednesday and Thursday, Friday was somewhat overcast. A one-hour rain shower briefly interrupted Saturday evening, but that didn’t deter the Maschseefest fans. With sunny and increasingly warm evenings, the Maschseefest then kicked off its second week.
Hans Nolte, managing director of Hannover Veranstaltungs GmbH, is delighted to see so many visitors enjoying the area around Lake Masch during the holiday season: “This is a truly gratifying outcome for us. Many restaurants are making their debut in Hannover this year, and for everyone involved, it marks a fresh start after a two-year hiatus—so it’s especially wonderful to receive such positive feedback from both Germany and abroad.”
International cuisine across approximately 20,000 square meters
A wide variety of international food stalls offer a large selection of international dishes. At the Maschsee Festival, Mexico, Germany, and Syria are located on the north shore, Spain in the west, Scandinavia and Italy on the east shore, and Ireland and international snacks in the south of the Maschsee. National and international guests still have until August 14 to embark on their own personal culinary world tour. Morning beer gatherings, winemaker evenings, and special menus offer unique experiences.
Under the open sky
One of the highlights of the second half of the festival is the performance by The Jetlags on August 13, presented by RADIO 21 on the Maschsefest stage on the north bank. On August 10, the “Palo Club Night” features DJ Carter, guest MC Goodgrip from Amsterdam, and live act Cosmo Klein. At the Hamborger Veermaster, the third week also offers a colorful, maritime program with shanty and sea shanty choirs and the popular Schwofen am See. At the 11th annual Duck Race organized by the North German Bone Marrow and Stem Cell Donor Registry (NKR) on August 13, 100 large Big Ducks and 5,000 small rubber ducks will take to the water under the motto “Giving Life – Against Leukemia.” The Musik-Park at the Maschseequelle will host two absolute cover band legends: Mind2Mode (Depeche Mode/Simple Minds/U2 cover band) on August 6 and Guns Celebration (Guns N’ Roses cover band) on August 13. The closing event on August 14 will be celebrated in the House Garden with Boris Dlugosch, the house legend from Hamburg.
For the little Maschseefest fans
On the large children’s playground in front of the Heinz von Heiden Arena, Xiè-Xiè Leisure and Experiential Education invites you to join in on some great activities. On Wednesdays and from Fridays through Sundays, a paradise of fun and games opens up there, featuring a craft tent, a bouncy castle, and much more. From 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. each day, the little ones can run around and play. From August 12–14, the Nintendo Summer Tour’s mobile game trucks will be visiting. Only a few tickets remain for the Maschsee Pirates cruises on the üstraLala on August 9 and 11, 2022. (Advance ticket sales exclusively at: ÜSTRA Reisen GmbH, Nordmannpassage 6, 30159 Hannover)
Ready to go: Tips for getting there and back
The HVG strongly recommends using public transportation to get there. Specifically for the Maschseefest, Üstra bus line 267 runs between the Kröpcke stop and the beach. There are several stops along the route right on the waterfront promenade. Currently, the “9-Euro Ticket” is also available for this route. The Moia ride-sharing service also offers additional stops around the Maschsee, which can be viewed in the app. For those arriving by car, the Schützenplatz is available as an additional parking lot. (Daily fee: €5)
Maschsee Festival – Collection by HEIMATHAFEN
A little piece of the Maschsee Festival to take home: Susanne Flohr and Volker Reckhoff from the sailing school on the north shore have designed a small but stylish Maschsee Festival collection especially for the 2022 festival! The exclusive motif celebrating Germany’s largest lake festival adorns T-shirts for women and men, blue and white gym bags, and large coffee mugs. The collection is available right at the entrance to the East Food Village on Rudolf-von-Bennigsen-Ufer.
