“5 Dates – 5 Teams – 5 Continents” – under this motto, the world is coming together for the International Fireworks Competition in the Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen. To kick off the anniversary year, the team from Skylighter Fireworx will compete for Australia. Representing Asia, the Chinese team from Vulcan Display Fireworks will be guests at the Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen on June 11. After the summer break, the Mexican pyrotechnicians from Pirotecnia Internacional will compete for the Americas. The African continent will be represented by Fireworks for Africa. For the finale, the Polish team from SUREX will compete for Europe. The fireworks display consists of a roughly 4-minute compulsory piece—this year an excerpt from Beethoven’s Coriolan Overture, Op. 62—and a roughly 20-minute freestyle routine.

Welcome Australia on May 28: Skylighter Fireworx

To kick things off, the smallest continent is making a guest appearance at the Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen: two playful kangaroos welcome the audience, a school of fish frolics among the coral reefs, and Misses Ocean has emerged from the sea. At the Garden Theater, PanGaea takes the audience on a journey to otherworldly realms with didgeridoos, saxophone, percussion, and electronic harmonies, while the rehearsal stage features alternative soul by Sydney-based Georgie Fisher. At 10:00 p.m., the sky above the Great Garden belongs to Skylighter Fireworx, one of Australia’s largest and most sought-after pyrotechnic companies. They are large enough to deliver state-of-the-art, world-class displays and small enough to personally oversee, design, deliver, and execute every single production. With award-winning shows in Macau, Canada, the U.S., the Philippines, and the U.K., Skylighter Fireworx presents numerous fireworks displays each year both domestically and abroad, leaving audiences in awe and wonder.

Welcome Asia on June 11: Vulcan Display Fireworks

On this evening of competition, magnificent Baroque equestrian artistry can be admired at the Western Crescent. In the Garden Theater, vibrant overtone singing, throat singing, and the sounds of the horse-head fiddle blend with pulsating drum rhythms to create an acoustic journey along the Silk Road. On the grand staircase, the Wushu department of Vfl Wolfsburg will present the traditional lion dance as well as Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Wushu, and Chinese martial arts. At 10:30 p.m., the team from Vulcan Display Fireworks will take the stage. The team currently operates three factories in the provinces of Hunan, Guangdong, and Guangxi, where they produce both professional and private fireworks for the international market. In Hanover, too, they have already impressed the jury twice with their show and taken home the winner’s title. The team produces shows that capture the audience’s excitement and anticipation in a very special way.

Welcome America on August 20: Pirotecnia Internacional

Magnificent macaws have flown in from the South American rainforest and will accompany guests to the Great Garden. On the Children’s Lawn, the UBC Cheerleaders will present a top-notch athletic and acrobatic show. Full of energy and passion, Chalance will perform the best Latin, swing, and pop songs from four decades at the Garden Theater with charm, wit, and sophistication. On the rehearsal stage, the Griyo quartet mixes an imaginative cocktail of alternative Latin music with elements of pop and jazz! At 10:00 p.m., the Mexican team from Pirotecnia Internacional takes over. The balance between tradition, art, and technology is the guiding principle of this established company. For over 50 years, the team has presented fireworks displays for special occasions such as National Independence Day, Pope John Paul II’s visit to Mexico, or the final of the Mexican soccer league.

Welcome Africa on September 3: Fireworks for Africa

Fiery-red, playful big cats welcome fireworks fans alongside drummers and dancers at the entrance gate to the Great Garden. Adjiri Odametey’s warm, earthy voice sets the tone in the Garden Theater with melodious songs from the world music scene. On the rehearsal stage, the Nii Amaah and Gye Nyame Band delivers danceable Afrobeat with a dash of funk, reggae, and R&B. The musicians, clowns, and acrobats of ADESA present a fascinating show for young and old alike on the children’s lawn, bursting with joie de vivre and fun! At 9:30 p.m., the pyrotechnicians from Fireworks for Africa will light up the sky above the Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen in magnificent colors. Based in Muldersdrift, Johannesburg, they are now the leading fireworks company in South Africa. In addition to fireworks displays at concerts for Tina Turner, Bon Jovi, and Pavarotti, the team also stages shows at major sporting events in Africa, such as the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Welcome Europe on September 17: SUREX

For the grand finale, Jorge La Guardia y Familia will bring together a diverse blend of old and new flamenco styles at the Garden Theater. The rich sounds, the dance, and the soulful improvisations are sure to enchant the audience. Four Nations will present their own unique mix of classics and current hits with a touch of folklore on the rehearsal stage. At 9:00 p.m., SUREX will then launch the final fireworks display of the 2022 competition. The family-run business operates under the motto “Our Passion, Your Emotions.” The Polish team focuses on the technical design and execution of large-scale musical fireworks displays for special occasions, such as the opening of the Polish Olympic Training Center in Szczyrk in 2014, the city anniversary celebrations in Wrocław, or the Tall Ship Races in Gdynia.

On the awards stage, Juliano Rossi traditionally entertains the audience before and after the fireworks display until this year’s winning team is announced, with his distinctive voice, cool understatement, and swing. Around 10:00 p.m., the organizers, together with the expert jury, will announce the winner of the 30th International Fireworks Competition.
