Welcome to Deister Day!

On May 8, the 13th Deistertag will be all about hiking and biking, enjoying nature, and attending events.

It’s finally that time of year again! After a two-year hiatus, the 13th Deister Day on May 8 will once again be all about hiking, biking, nature experiences, and events. The Deister municipalities of Bad Münder, Bad Nenndorf, Barsinghausen, Rodenberg, Springe, and Wennigsen are once again presenting a diverse program this year for all nature and culture enthusiasts. Numerous guided hiking and biking tours will depart from these six municipalities. In addition, there will be opportunities for sightseeing, live music, and many attractive events within the towns themselves.

Regional President Steffen Krach is looking forward to Deister Day: “The Deister is—in the truest sense of the word—an outstanding local recreation area for the Hanover region. Several hundred kilometers of hiking trails invite visitors to enjoy nature and test their fitness. For those who need a specific goal, we recommend the Hannover Region Hiking Passport, which leads to 12 stamp stations in the Greater Deister. Deister Day features many activities that encourage you to explore the area. So if you’re not familiar with the Deister, you should set out by May 8 at the latest to get to know our ‘local mountain range.’ But a visit is definitely worthwhile for everyone else, too. The best part: The Deister is also easily accessible from Hanover by S-Bahn!”

The program is varied and appealing to all audiences. In total, over 40 events are offered from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Highlights certainly include the colorful family program centered around the Nordmann Tower, the family-friendly herb walk—where participants learn which superfoods grow along the trail—geocaching tours, an enchanted fairy-tale guided tour, and the waterwheels celebrating the start of their season. You can also experience plenty of nature on a leisurely horse-drawn carriage ride through the Deister, on a hike with the forest ranger, or on guided bike tours with various themes.
The farm cafés, brewery, and several forest restaurants invite you to enjoy a sweet treat and a rustic break. The best way to experience the “wild” side of the Deister is with a visit to the Springe bison enclosure. Thomas Slappa, spokesperson for the Deister Working Group, emphasizes: “This diverse program is only possible again this year thanks to the special, dedicated efforts of the individual hiking guides, course instructors, and the numerous clubs and organizations that welcome guests and actively shape the vibrancy of the Deister region.”

For Hans Nolte, managing director of HMTG, the Deister is one of the most beautiful destinations in the Hanover vacation region: “The diverse landscapes around the Deister offer great recreational opportunities for nature and culture lovers. Located in the heart of the Calenberger Land region, with its historic sights, monasteries, and castles, it is an absolute highlight of the vacation region. Whether on foot or by bike, whether you’re a beginner or an experienced hiker, Deister Day offers a diverse program that has something for everyone.”

In the Deister municipalities as well, local clubs, tourist information offices, hiking associations, and retailers are helping to put up posters and promote the program. The 20,000 program booklets are being distributed at cultural institutions and restaurants throughout the Hanover region, are included with the “Stadtkind” magazine, and are available in the municipalities. The promotional effort is rounded out by advertorials and ads in magazines and city publications, as well as in the latest HMTG eMag. The Deister is also part of the national and international HMTG spring campaign under the
slogan “#Vacation in Germany.” The goal of the campaign is to raise awareness of the Hannover vacation region as a diverse travel destination.
