The night watchman in front of Peter's house

The town square, Springe’s “living room,” is surrounded by charming half-timbered houses. Here, “Heinrich the Night Watchman” keeps watch over the goings-on. The picturesque wooden signpost shows visitors the way. And that path leads into narrow alleys and courtyards, which offer impressive views at every turn …

Many buildings reflect different eras, as the town of Springe looks back on a history spanning over 900 years. A highlight of the town tour is Haus Peters Am Markt, with its rich wood carvings, which was built starting in 1619 in the Weserrenaissance style.

Downtown Springe

In front of it, the Marienbrunnen fountain, featuring the "wooden reader," gurgles gently. In addition to the sights, the lively weekly market, which takes place every Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., draws visitors to the city. Here, cyclists can not only find the perfect refreshment but also enjoy the bustling atmosphere against a historic backdrop.

As a state-recognized resort town, Springe offers its guests and residents a wide range of activities. A shopping trip takes you past numerous boutiques and specialty stores, charming restaurants invite you to take a break, and on warm days, outdoor cafés liven up the scene.

Don't miss it: In the “Zum Oberntor” pedestrian zone, the bell tower plays different melodies appropriate to the season. The carillon rings daily 5 minutes before 9 a.m., noon, 3 p.m., and 6 p.m. The Saupark Springe is a wooded area surrounded by a 16-kilometer-long, two-meter-high wall. Here, the Guelph kings, the German emperor, and Europe’s aristocracy once indulged in hunting.

Nestled in the heart of the Saupark is the hunting lodge, which was built between 1838 and 1842 according to plans by court architect Laves. Events are regularly held in its magnificent halls. The hunting lodge concerts in the Kaisersaal are renowned far beyond the state’s borders. The hunting horn competition, held every two years, is an unforgettable experience.

Wolf in the Springe Bison Enclosure

The bison enclosure, also located in Saupark, offers a fascinating glimpse into the animal kingdom. In this scenic wildlife park, visitors can encounter over 100 native wildlife species. Bison, moose, primitive wild horses, wolves, lynx, native deer species, many bird species, and even bears and wolves live here in their natural habitats.
