The region offers world-class expertise in various fields of research and is home to institutions of global renown, including the Hannover Medical School (MHH), the International Neuroscience Institute, and the Hannover University of Veterinary Medicine Foundation.

Already, one in seven working people in the region is employed in the healthcare sector—creating ideal conditions for successful startup launches and business relocations to the region. With its outstanding scientific expertise, particularly in clinical research, the region plays a leading role on the international stage. Hannover is also a recognized leader in regenerative medicine, biomedical engineering, and healthcare.

Many academic and research institutions have gained international recognition and provide first-rate facilities. For example, the Hannover Medical School has established itself as one of the world’s leading medical institutions. Particularly noteworthy is its specialization in (pre-)clinical research, infectious disease biology, and transplant medicine. The International Neuroscience Institute (INI), a specialized clinic and research facility for a wide range of conditions, has been highly successful.

The Hannover University of Veterinary Medicine (TiHo) Foundation, with its core disciplines of infectious diseases, neuroscience, animal health, food science, and clinical research, is one of the longest-standing institutions of its kind in Europe. The Klinikum Region Hannover (KRH), the region’s leading hospital system with twelve hospitals, is one of Germany’s most significant municipal hospital systems. The Auf der Bult Children’s and Adolescent Hospital is also well-known beyond the region.

The healthcare industry is Hannover’s most important industry of the future and is promoted by the HMTG and other partners, for example through an annual healthcare supplement (more information here) in regional daily newspapers.
