Running: a discovery event in the heart of Europe

Ahead of its 25th anniversary, which will be celebrated in the spring of 2015, the TUI Hanover Marathon will be in the headlines on April 27, the date of this year’s race.

Compared to the previous edition, the sharp increase in registrations points to a new record for participation and underscores the resurgence in popularity of Lower Saxony’s largest running event, held in the heart of Europe.

Having been awarded the “Silver Label” for the first time, a quality label awarded by the IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations) attesting to the high quality of the organization, the TUI Marathon will once again welcome more than 16,000 runners from nearly 80 different countries, much to the delight of the state capital and Stefan Schostok, mayor and patron of the event. This conference city in northern Germany offers its visitors a wealth of cultural, historical, and scientific highlights.

In a sports-loving Hanover that offers a wide variety of disciplines, the TUI Marathon is a flagship event whose number of participants grows year after year and whose national and international reputation continues to grow.

Over various distances, runners get to discover the city’s charms as they race. The downtown course, with its extremely flat and fast route, is ideal for achieving personal bests.

After setting off near the imposing city hall, participants pass a whole series of tourist attractions: the 47-meter-tall Waterloo Column, the HDI-Arena World Cup stadium, the Maschsee—a lake more than three kilometers long and the city’s true “blue lung”—and then the Eilenriede, one of Europe’s largest urban forests. The route then runs alongside the Hanover Discovery Zoo and the “Herrenhäuser,” an iconic example of traditional garden design and a superb Baroque masterpiece of its kind, as well as the brand-new Herrenhausen Palace.

The Opera House, the Welfenschloss at the University of Hannover, the Sculpture Mile, and the three “Nanas” by French artist Niki de Saint-Phalle, the “old” town hall, the State Parliament Building, and the Marktkirche are also located right next to the route.

The fantastic atmosphere of this event, complemented by a varied and colorful program of activities, an event center just a few steps away, a live television broadcast lasting more than three hours, the Marathon EXPO, and special hotel rates for athletes—are all part of the TUI Marathon 2014, which has established itself as a true urban sporting spectacle and a “discovery event” for running enthusiasts.

In conjunction with the TUI Marathon on April 27, 2014, Hannover Marketing und Tourismus GmbH is offering hotel rooms to participants and fans at special rates:

Participants who book their rooms up to 14 days before the event will be able to pick up their race packets at the front desk of the hotel where they made their reservation—saving valuable time on marathon day. And to help athletes fuel up before the start, the hotels will offer a breakfast buffet starting at 6:00 a.m. on race day. The reservation form is available on the TUI Marathon page and under http://www.hannover.de/en/Marathon2014
