Over the course of five evenings between May and September, top-tier pyrotechnics teams from Mexico, China, Portugal, England, and Croatia will showcase their creativity and artistic talent as they transform the skies above Hannover into a thrilling spectacle featuring a dazzling mosaic of brilliant bursts of light. And all of this will be perfectly choreographed to music, making this event a truly multisensory experience.

Before the fireworks teams captivate the audience with their renditions of the compulsory routine and then a freestyle routine, live music concerts, a variety of performances, and tightrope acts will keep the audience entertained—with themed entertainment for each of the participating countries. A jury of professionals will select the winner of this internationally renowned competition.

The competition, organized by Hannover Veranstaltungs GmbH (HVG), will open on May 12 with a spectacular fireworks display by last year’s winners, the “Pirotécnia Reyes” team from Mexico. In 2011, the Latin American pyrotechnicians triumphed over their rivals in Hanover thanks to their exceptional performance. The event will continue on June 9 with the Chinese team “Panda Fireworks.” They caused a sensation with their fireworks display at the Beijing Olympics and during the opening of the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai. The portfolio of the Portuguese pyrotechnics team “Grupo Luso Pirotecnia” (August 25) includes numerous commissioned displays for international soccer events such as the 2004 European Championship. The “Jubilee Fireworks” team (September 8) is widely regarded as one of the leading pyrotechnics companies in the United Kingdom. Among their achievements, the British pyrotechnicians won a gold medal at the “1st International Pyromusical Competition in the Philippines” in 2010. Finally, on September 22, the Croatian pyrotechnicians “Mirnovec Pirotehnika” will present the closing show. And this event promises to be one of the most glamorous: the company, founded in the Croatian city of Samobor in 1993, boasts a client list that includes famous names such as the Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Metallica, Steven Spielberg, and Richard Gere!

“We are delighted to be able to showcase world-class pyrotechnicians at the 22nd International Fireworks Competition. Other teams are already signing up to participate in future editions. The keen interest shown by pyrotechnicians certainly attests to the international prestige this competition has earned,” said Hans Christian Nolte, CEO of HVG.

Last year, the International Fireworks Competition drew more than 49,000 spectators. Set in one of Europe’s most beautiful Baroque gardens, the audience was dazzled by the pyrotechnic artistry displayed by the Swedish, French, Spanish, Austrian, and Mexican competitors.
