Hanover: The Maschsee Festival brings a breath of sea air!

With the world’s largest Schützenfest having just come to a close, preparations are already underway in Hanover for the next major event. From July 27 to August 14, the Maschseefest will bring a breath of the sea to the capital of Lower Saxony.

For the past 26 years, this annual event has attracted more than 2 million visitors, who enjoy strolling along the shores of Lake Hanover for 19 days. A diverse culinary scene, free concerts, water sports such as the “Crazy Crossing” raft race or the torchlight swim, and open-air dance parties create a vacation-like atmosphere on the Maschsee. An exciting children’s program, along with cabaret and comedy shows, round out the experience.

Once again this year, the star of the festival is Lake Maschsee: visitors can rediscover the lake—which covers nearly 0.8 square kilometers—through boat rides, relaxed cocktail parties with a view of the lake, or by strolling along the shores.

Creative culinary concepts will add a new twist to this traditional festival. Food lovers will be drawn to pirate-themed decor, lighthouses, and lounge areas right on the water. “The Maschseefest is the perfect place to invite friends, relax, enjoy yourself, and have fun,” says Christian Nolte, president of Hannover Veranstaltungs GmbH (HVG), which is organizing the festival for the first time. “We hope to welcome many visitors who will take this opportunity to explore and discover the city of Hanover,” adds Nolte.

Highlights will follow one after another on the four stages around the lake: legendary country singer Gunter Gabriel and Latin pop star Loona will grace us with their presence on July 29. Sharon Phillips and her band will captivate visitors at the Temple Bar on August 6. Concerts by Pat Appleton, De-Phazz’s “Lounge Queen” (August 3), and Juliano Rossi (August 12) will be other highlights of the event. On Sunday, jazz fans will get their money’s worth—they’ll be able to listen to jazz and swing around the lake. Maschseefest regulars “Sweety Glitter & The Sweethearts” and “Lotto King Karl & Die Barmbek Dream Boys” will also be there.

Even the youngest visitors will be able to enjoy the Maschseefest: a new and varied program has been created for them by partner Hannover 96, Johanniter Unfall-Hilfe, and IdeenExpo, under the direction of Xiè-Xiè Freizeit- und Erlebnispädagogik für Kinder.
